I live by these rules.

1) I only loan close personal friends money or I'll help them out. If they don't pay me back, then I don't care because they're my friends and I'd take care of them anyways

2)If I loan money to someone that I don't know that great and I truly care about getting paid back, it comes with a contract. That way, you're getting sued and while I may not get my money back, I always have the option to collect through a judgement.

If they don't like my terms, then they don't get the loan. That the beauty of being the lender, you get to make the rules.

The notion that it is "unfair" or not "honorable" to out someone that you have lent any amount of money and isn't paying you back is silly IMO. It may not be how everyone would deal with the situation and its probably never the best way to collect your money, but some people's comments(including DN's) about it somehow not being the honorable thing to do are just silly.

The person owing you money is clearly in the wrong and you should be able to do just about whatever you want in terms of tarnishing their reputation if they aren't following the agreement.

I remember one time on HSP when Durrr had asked Ziig if he owed him a couple of 100k, Ziggy was like no man I got it from so and so. It's obv never ok not to pay someone back but I think we lose site sometimes of the crazy world they live in. Up millions one day, broke the next, etc etc. **** happens and the people that lend big money know it. As far as Erick, it pretty much went without saying that you won't get your money back til around the WSOP, anyone close to him and was owed any significant money knows this. Part of the old crew. The 40-or-so degenerates who would see each other at casinos in the early 90s across the country, and most likely, taking action with one another. If you go on youtube and searc for 95-98 WSOP vids, you can see these two, Lederer, Seidel, Seed, Matusow, Duke, Hellmuth, etc.....all drinking, eating together, etc.

This was all before everyone became famous, developed egos (think Duke v DN on rec.poker), and the debts between each other probably got bigger as the internet games got astronomical (and this carried to the high stakes rooms).

Poker, in a sense, is much more "tigher" today with the money today than back then, although more money flows into the industry now (thank you, Federal Reserve).

Back in the 90s, TMK, *everyone* had pieces of each other, at least amongst the pro community. You'd have a field of 300, with 100-175 of the people taking some piece of each other either by staking or share selling.

With the fields being so big today, as well as internet kids/cliques developing their own wealth(s), you have much more diversity of people playing on their own dime(s), taking shots. Also now with the internet pokerz being killed in the US for the most part, the flow of cash WILL start to de-leverage, as we just cant transfer stakes/debt payments on Stars with the snap of a finger. You also had 3rd Party put options style betting on ChipMeUp (now banned in USA), which will further cut bullets from players' bankrolls.
