I don't think anyone has said he has any responsibility to say anything about this.

But not sure anyone said he had a responsibility to make his opinion known about many things - epic, full tilt, annie, .... - although when he does, he seems usually right - picks his spots wisely?

wow again. I meant it in the way Jackonory described it: Varkonyi didn't put on airs about being something he wasn't. I didn't know he lost $1.8M to a ponzie scheme. So they still got him in the end? lol... this is a depressing run in news.

"Fool's Die" by Mario Puzo (the guy who wrote the book behind the Godfather movies) is recommended reading for anyone else bummed about this thread. Puzo describes life in terms of a gambler's life in the casinos. Just as you will eventually die... the casinos will eventually get your $$. But until they do, you can have a fun and memorable ride. I will give him credit for being one of the few guys who apparently pays his debts. When he was the sucker in golf he paid up despite being taken advantage of.

Varkonyi? I've never seen footage of that year, I'm sure he ran great which is what I alluded to in my previous post, he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would win a big tourney and then decide he was a nosebleeds baller a la Jamie Gold.

I doubt any ME winner post 2000 could say they didn't run great during the tournament, even if you get it in as a favourite every time (which they almost certainly haven't) you still rate to lose one somewhere along the way.

This was apparently close to an open secret in the high stakes golf, FF etc betting communities. Not sure there is much left for him to gain by saying something now. Not saying i would have done anything different in his shoes....in fact I'm certain I would have done the same thing.
