It's pretty easy to post anonymously from a coffeeshop or library or some random person's network.

I guess the only thing Merge would have going for it is the brand name (which was hardly recognizable before BF, and i'd bet the general public still has never heard of it), it's not like the new sites would be competing with household names like Stars/Tilt.
I think they stopped taking new sign ups because they were happy to take in the profits they had locked in. Didn't want to overload or draw too much attention to their shady payment processors.

Wouldn't the market correct itself if a bunch of legal sites opened? Why would anyone leave their money on Merge or any other "illegal" site if there were safer, more secure and legal places to play?
I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that the enforcement branch of the government is pursuing cases based upon contraventions of the existing legislation. I doubt that they choose their targets based upon what the legislative branch may or may not do in the future.

Looks to me like clearing field for some other players. Wouldn't look like that if all these legalisation stuff in USA is not comming. Why would they want to stop online poker now when it's so close to be legalised in USA.

[12:46] can you confirm that player balances are in different accounts than regular business funds?
RPMJon: [12:46] Operational funds and player funds are never mixed. Player funds are segregated as a condition of the Malta licensing.

Its bull**** how long it takes to get a check from all the U.S. friendly sites nowadays. I'm not gonna wait a month to get paid therefor lately all I've been playing is live.

Hopefully the DoJ gets it together soon....
