Hmm anyone know who this is and if there are other Italiano's that are also forced to pay taxes?
The article says that there are no taxes taken on online winnings, so this must be live tournament prizes. Dario Minieri has cashed several times in EPT events, which are run from the UK (but I would have thought that the Pokerstars EPT was "licenced"), but I don't think any Italian has made more than 6 million euros playing live. Dario's live earnings total 1.8 million dollars.
Here's the all time list of Italians: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/ranking/212
I think the meaning of the article was lost in translation. Instead of "won" they meant "lost" but seeing as how the Italians are in difficult debt at the moment, they assumed anyone who could afford to loose 6 million euro, can also afford to pay the tax on a theoretical winning.
As far as i know Italy taxes all winnings from international sites. On sites, like pokerstars.it and giocodigitale.it, the taxes are allready included in the entryfee (2€ tournament= 1.68 +0.32 fee).
