Every accomplished live pro has had the benefit of positive variance, that doesnt mean they arent good, but if they didnt run well theyd be replaced by their counterpart whos just as good who ran well. So its stupid to try and argue that its all skill, and its stupid to argue that its all luck. Its both. Same is going to be true for online as well, just to a lesser extent. But every single person whos gotten to the top in any aspect of poker has gotten their because they also had luck on their side, if they didnt, they never would have made it.

Lol are you joking? Game was so much easier back in those days, just watch a like coaching video from those days. Reasons why like more players played nosebleedes were that there was so much fish around both at nosebleedes (Like Guy for instance and live players) and I don't know exactly at what limits it started to get "hard". But guys like durr,galfond or whoever could just go down and print money at like nl1k etc. More fish around back in the days at all stakes made it easier for people to move up in stakes. It perfectly reasonable that people don't want to play like 200/400 etc when 25/50 barely runs, it's hard to grind up a roll for those stakes. From what I know 25/50 ran all the time and people were "grinding" that stake day in day out.

People learned to table select as well.

I hope you are still there and read this. I dont like how this thread just got into a Dnegs hate thread. I understand why, but this thread should be about the bet and not about hands from 2007 (everyone was awful back then btw.)

So, you basically have 2 options how you are gonna play this bet out:

1.) Play the regular 25/50 tables. These tables will fill INSTANTLY about you. You won't have to play the top 5 regulars. You will have to play 2 of the top 5 regulars (the once that are sitting) and 3 weaker seat scripters who are maybe taking a shot. It won't be hard, however, far from impossible to win this bet this way. These people play far from GTO (everyone does) and everyone has leaks. Some just have more than others. If you manage to prove yourself to be solid, tables won't fill around you anymore after a few thousand hands. You will probably still have to play 3/4handed with top regulars, but this way you will be able to get into games with recreational players on normal tables.

2.) Play Zoom only. This way you are able to play with recreational players from the start, however, I am not sure if you like the format and it wouldn't be as fun to rail. Also this way you will probably be more often sitting with the top5 at the table than if you just play the normal tables.

Whatever you chose, I would really, really hope to see this bet go down, as it would be incredible good for the online highstakes and online poker in generall. Backing out of this bet on the other hand would incredible damage your image imo (as you can see in this thread, because everybody is thinking you WILL back out)

wow, i've seen those hsp hands like a million times, but it never ceases to amaze me how bad DN actually is. I mean, sure, he's propably a smart guy overall, but his thought process shows that he's just awful at playing poker.

e: btw, lines he took can be a part of a decent, balanced gameplan (especially turning J blocker into a bluff in a 2nd hand) - that's why i pointed out his thought process which he explained in the first hand rather than the way those hands were actually played.

Of course it won't happen. Him & his assistants need to up his PR profile so he maintains a minimum level of relevance throughout the year, especially when there aren't many live tournaments to play after summer is over.

I don't know why he needs people to think he's a high stakes cash player, no shame in young kids passing him up online. He's still plenty good in live tournaments, watching him nit up 1/2 is making me sad.

i mean im def a DN fan and nothing against him and what he does. But imo he will lose the challenge pretty often and I don't think its ideal for new players to see headlines of Daniel Negreanu gets crushed online! Internet players are too smart! :/
