I don't mean to be offensive at all, and I have nothing against David Williams.

I just find the concept of congratulating someone on having a baby kind of strange. It's not hard to do. Penis in vagina, ejaculate, wait a few months, let the doctor do his thing. Congratulating someone on raising a "good" child makes more sense.

It's not like the world needs more people so desperately. The world has 7 billion people and it's way too many. I actually think the human family model, where every person grows up expecting to have their own children someday, is a system that we as a species should've grown out of long ago. It's a system that multiplies the population, and I feel like it's a failure of the human species that we haven't been able to grow past those instincts, when clearly a lower birthrate would be much better for the world. The "one child per family" system that was briefly in place in China was the only time, to my knowledge, that humans showed we had the potential to be smarter than mold growing on a slice of bread when it comes to over-riding our reproductive instincts.

Sorry for the rant, I just find the concept of congratulating someone on having a baby to be quite silly and something that may have made sense in the past, but not really anymore.

Having said that, I still wish David and his family the best, and that the child is healthy, and that he will be a good father

Congratulating has nothing to do with rewarding someone for something hard he/she has done, it's merely a way of saying 'it pleasures me to hear that'.

We congratulate someone for it being their birthday, winning the lottery and tons of other stuff that is not that hard to do.

That said, you're probably right that out system is faulty about our species exploding, but who cares, only our children's children will truely have problems because of it, so just tell your kids not to have kids imo.
