Unbelievable.

This is the final straw. I've been with Betfair almost since the company first started and they generated such massive goodwill with customers initially. That is all completely gone now for me - scandal after scandal after lies after scandal.

That's a relief.

I hope this doesn't get lost among all the people talking about FT and the new owner. This is really scary that one of the major poker sites can be hacked like this.

From MARCH, cmon... ffs
a ton of people could have changed a few security qs on other services in which they might have same Q.

Hell im sure people probably forgot what their betfair security Q is, and thus dont even know what to change.

Betfair should have instantly emailed customers.
Said your Security Was X
This Q/A was discovered by an attack.. etc..

I think that their position was that the data was encrypted in such a way that it was unreadable and worthless.
Spoiler:

Unless you give some Russian hackers a couple of days to play with it.

Seriously though, if the data really was unusable, the chairman wouldn't have announced his resignation.

Sony was hacked a year later, wasn't it?

I'm pretty sure that if a hacker is able to get all that data, it wont be a problem for him to hack the encryption.

Hopefully nobody was affected by this, but if you had an account you should take appropriate measures, that creditcard information is sold instantly online. You have no idea how easy it is to buy hacked customer details and card info.

It's problem.

Not sure why anybody is still playing at BetFair.

Matchbook is one third the commission, no tax (premium charge) and is already more liquid then Betfair in many spots.

Being fair I know some of the people that are higher up at betfair poker, they have good people in their poker department. Its just the rest of the company that is corrupt.

It still amazes me when I hear of governments and large businesses still don't seem to grasp the concept of "unencryption"...

They cheated my friend (he runs a local poker tour- they never paid the commissions & sponsorships they contracted for, after months of excuses).

Are all these high-up poker employees just helpless hostages to the rest of the company ripping people off?

"We have taken the prudent view that the criminal has the expertise to decrypt the payment card details," Betfair admitted, though stressed that the "CVV2/CVC security numbers" were not stolen.
It said advice from RBS was that "this very significantly limits the ability of the cards to be used fraudulently".
Really?

I'm going to go out on a limb, 1000 security code combinations per card won't prove to be too big a challenge for anyone capable of hacking betfair and decrypting their data.

Wow sick & lol at ''data stolen are useless for fraudsters'' - nice PR trick but we ain't common people

Yeah, these guys hacked at least 11 Betfair servers in two different countries. Somehow I doubt their plans were foiled by whatever encryption was being used. Especially considering the auditors afterwards said: "The [Betfair] IT infrastructure has not been designed, built or maintained to best practices."

Would not be surprised to hear of Cereus-level "encryption" again.
