Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

Couldn't the robber just get a buddy to sit in a high limit poker game with some of the chips? Sell them off to other players at the table etc? Doesn't seem like it would really be all that hard if he was willing to be patient. Could be good for the poker community too.

How the **** would that be good? If he inserted 1.5 million of 'fake' money into the poker economy that gets seized when they try to cash those chips, then in reality he didn't steal from Bellagio, but stole from the poker community if they are the ones who end up taking the hit because Bellagio won't honor the dirty chips.

Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

Cliffs: Lots of people treat Bellagio chips just like cash. Author once heard a story about some guy donating a 5k chip to an anti-gambling charity to embarass a casino into honoring the rest of the chips. Using the magic of logic, the author then concludes that the best way for the robber to fence the chips is to donate a lot of them to charity.

It's full-proof.

I sure hope the Bellagio would honor any chip won legitimately in its cash games....

I'm not sure which part of the article you are referring to, but there is a lot of truth in it. There was a thread right after the robbery where most everyone said "LOL dumb robber cant cash the chips they will know when he walks in the door".
That couldnt be further from the truth. With the exception of the $25k chips, cashing in the rest would be very easy if the robber was smart and patient. And the $25k chips wouldnt be out of the question.

$100, $500, and probably $1,000 chips would be easy to cash in. Using them to buy into a table game or poker game would be the best approach.

I'm sure their argument would be that it's not legitimately won if the chips were stolen to begin with.

They certainly wouldn't cash a counterfeit chip simply because it was won in a game.

if so then the robber is basically just stealing from the players rather than the bellagio. isn't that worse for them longterm?

Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

Given the secondary market for Bellagio chips, you could probably find a good laywer (see Saul in Breaking Bad) to switch denominations for a premium. The premium would obv vary greatly depending on how much ppl buy into the RFID = chips are worthless story.

How many potentially worthless cranberries would you accept for a legit 5k chip? I'd probably chance a few k with a good sized roll.. If it worked I'd buy a boat and name it "Live Rakeback."

Keep in mind, the chips the robber has are not counterfeit or illegitimate. They are regular Bellagio chips, just like the many others sitting in peoples safety deposit boxes, pockets, and in play in many other places. RFID is meaningless.
All this guy has to do is be smart and patient, and he can work everything up to the $5k's in very easily.

Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

If a stolen 25k somehow found its way into a Bobby's Room and ended up in the hands of a high stakes Bellagio regular, say Phil Ivey, with no reason to believe he had acquired it in any illegitimate way, would the Bellagio honor it for someone like Phil Ivey if it was a single chip in one of his racks while he was cashing out?

Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

I was at the crap table the other day at Bellagio and the $25k cranberry chips were switched for the old $25k candy cane chips. The bottom line is anyone that cashes any chip $1k and over is going to be checked out at cage to where he played and verified at the table. I cashed out 3 $1k chips had to give my MGM card and they called the table to verify. Same holds true in the poker room there

Re: Cashing Stolen Bellagio Chips -Poker News

you think this dude is sitting in his apartment right now, staring at the stolen chips thinking about how the hell to cash them.

What if he brought one of the stolen chips into the casino and purposely dropped it on the floor in the bathroom.
