Very nicely done video, I think I have gone through many similar things as u zeebo and just like in your situation I am not sure I could remain sane without having my significant other around. So are you 2 engaged now? Also I just wanna say your blog was the first poker blog I ever really read and I still say the photoshop post u made about playing Daniel Alilei (prob spelled wrong) at 200 400 hu was one of the more classic poker blog posts ever.

Zeebo is probably one of the nicest people I've ever met, in poker or outside poker.

Very well done, props to the director and others involved. Probably the only poker related thing I've actually enjoyed watching other than HSP.

A note about Galfond - whenever a news program does a segment about online poker or poker in general they bring an "expert" or somebody that's relevant to the poker world for their insight. I always get kinda tilted because this person doesn't convey to the public exactly what needs to be said or doesn't say it right, or leaves out things that I would like the mass audience to hear. I think Galfond would be perfect for this role. He's always composed, articulate, highly intelligent and obviously an online success story. Would be awesome if the PPA or whoever recruited Phil to go on news/talkshow circuits and talk about poker, and would be awesome if he cared enough to do it.

P.S. Zeebo you really got ridiculously lucky with your girlfriend, hold on to that one.

Zeebo's comments about not wanting to help the people of america and making online poker look like a huge degenerate hobby that will send you crazy with likely large cash losses some days as well do nothing to help the legalization of poker in your country.

I really hope the other docu's are more upbeat if they ever get aired on TV or else it's a pretty terrible idea to make a series as depressing as this.
When I watched it, I didn't see it as all that depressing. Maybe everyone else does. The bipolar stuff wasn't solely caused by the poker, only a partial factor. I think the fact that I've earned a ton, and ended up getting engaged and started to go away from poker towards math tutoring is a fairly positive note. I've also become very mentally stable too. I'm 100x happier with my life than I was pre-poker, and I owe pretty much all of it to poker.

I agree w/ this. I really liked the episode and would love to see more but I would never show this to my close friends/parents who are all outside of the poker world. The first thing they would think afterwards would be "Huge swings - Depression - Bipolar - Mental institution"

yeah, i can see why many online pros shouldnt be live players........or venture outside the front door.

but always remember, online balling makes you really cool. keep thinking that while you ball on your sushi and bicurious thoughts i'm sure.

i wonder if some of you play footsie under the table with your flip flops while eating gourmet bacon together.

zeebo,

I remember reading your "2006-04-29 - Moving Down, Near Busto" a long time ago, what do you think the turning point for your comeback was?

Also, what level of dedication do you think is necessary to beat midstakes games now?

This doc works on a lot of levels. It reflects a perfect mirror back at a certain type of person in the online world. These things don't just happen at 2+2 but all over the internet. Not mention he is oddly captivating while utterly standard. Really great stuff.

I'm not sure, I don't really pick "favorites" very easy, but I imagine:

Marge vs the Monorail
Lemon of Troy (lemon tree episode)
Mr Plow
Duffless
Homer at the Bat
Flaming Moes
Radio Bart (Bart falls down the well)
Homer the Great (stonecutters)

would be near the top.

Unless you're interested in doing PR fluff pieces for the online poker industry, it is what it is (and i really liked it). Zeebo comes off as a nice and good-hearted guy who has some inner demons; who doesn't? Seems like a fair and accurate portrayal of an successful online player. The intent of a documentary should not be to propagandize or to help legalize online poker or there is no way it could be this good.

Overall it's worth it though.

Wow, I thought this was great. Good work to all involved.

I don't know much about psychology or about Greg but it seems to me that online poker is a very dangerous lifestyle for someone who is at all mentally unstable.

Really good production, congrats on that, but the content it's so depressing (esp second part) and in no way this would help the cause of online poker . I wouldn't want this published in public television . We need more of what OmgClay and Sensei say and not all of this depressing stuff from zeebo.

IIRC, that blog post was more of a joke. I've never been close to busto in my poker career. I've always been really in control wrt bankroll management, almost to a fault. Near busto at the time probably meant I lost 5% or less of my roll the previous month. Whenever I started to do bad in poker, I'd just move down in stakes; that way if I was actually playing bad I'd minimize my losses.

I'm not sure what is necessary to beat midstakes games now, as I'm pretty out of touch with the games. I'd field that question to the medium stakes NL forum.
