Cantu, the end 2 or 3 seat, went screaming a lot of things, so the whole tournament was watching it unfold. The WSOP floor did nothing for a good few minutes and allowed everything to escalate back and forth after the ruling. Then Cantu got up and shoved Jesse and went at his face. Jesse then shouted to throw this guy out like a little girl in stranger danger, and got all self-righteous about it.

While Cantu was only one to go physical, Jesse Martin was more insufferable. He obviously had an axe to grind with Cantu. Cantu acted like a child too, but it was unfair the group ganging up on him.

Word at the time was that Cantu owed a bunch of money to people who allegedly cheated him at chinese poker. Jesse Martin went there, and clearly knew what he was doing. That's the context of why Cantu may have gotten even more upset than normal. Whether that is true or not, I don't know, but Jesse Martin was being a d-bag more than Cantu for sure.
So you missed what Cantu originally said. I guess being 2 or 3 tables away doesn't make you an expert on this altercation.

Also when someone physically attacks you in a casino they should be tossed. It's only remarkable self restraint on Jesse's part that stopped it from escalating.

And lots of people dislike Cantu for lots of reasons. In this case he unfairly accused another player of angle shooting so it's hard for him to find much support from table mates and people who actually witnessed the beginning of the altercation.

But as you point out, he owes other players large amounts of money he refuses to pay, which tends to make one disliked in the general poker community.

It's not remarkable restraint, he really did instigate it, and he didn't take Cantu seriously. Cantu seemed off his rocker enough at the time to pull a gun. Both should have been DQ'd imo. I was just annoyed that Jesse Martin in his mind justified how he was somehow righteous, when he was guilty of fighting words (disturbing the peace).

I'm not defending Cantu though, just saying there is more to the story. Even with the debts, he has his side to tell I'm sure. It sounds like he got setup, because someone who disliked Cantu a lot was the one to snicker about him being cheater at Chinese, by Chinese. I have no opinion on the accuracy of this, I don't know Cantu except in passing, and from his tirades.

So you think someone who is defending a friend who is being wrongly accused of angle-shooting deserves the same punishment as someone who literally physically assaulted another person.

Good to know. Hope you never get to be in a position of power with your lack of logical skills.

Cantu should have been kicked out, no doubt about it, however, you don't defend a friend by verbally attacking the other person. You defend by defending, if defending is even somehow necessary? Jesse clearly instigated the attack by getting involved where he didn't need to get involved and he was 100% trying to stir Cantu up.

And yes, I was there also.

As someone who was NOT there but who knows the difference between verbal assault and physical assault, here's what should have happened.

Jesse should have been issued a penalty. A DQ would be over the line but at least a 1 round orbit penalty (with max 3).

Cantu should have been DQ, the TD should have called Security over and have him escorted out the building, and there should have been put in a request to have Cantu barred from the RIO and/or all Caesar's properties indefinitely.

I really don't care who you are. You don't get to put your hands on someone else in an assaulting way without repercussions. I don't care if Jesse insulted Brandon, his mother, his family, whatever, physical assault is a crime, period end of story.
