Sad that @BLUFFMedia has closed its doors. Things like this always makes me feel terrible for the employees I consider friends.

does this mean kevmath needs a new gig?

The company that owned them certainly is not busto, quite the opposite. TBH, I'm surprised it took so long.

Bluff.com is set to wind down current operations within the next few weeks.
The site will continue to exist in some yet-to-be-determined form, but the current staff and structure will be eliminated.
This is a euphemism for, "we want KevMath and others to work for free"

This is the way of the internet, sad but true.

Can't add much more than what was in our story.

Current staff and structure will be phased out in coming weeks. The August 15 date may not be accurate.

The site will be folded into CD and will continue to operate utilizing internal resources at CD. No word on how active the new site will be, but I imagine less active to a meaningful degree, or else there would be little logic for this decision.

I would imagine the radio silence from current Bluff employees is a result of them hashing out their separation agreements with CD.

I don't know everyone at Bluff, but I have nothing but positive feelings about the people I do know. Lance Bradley in particular is one of my favorite people in the industry and anyone who can scoop him up would be doing themselves a favor.

Well, word is out. Been with BLUFF for 7.5 years and EIC for six. I'm very proud of the product we produced but more important than (1/6)

anything else, I'm proud of the people I've had the privilege of working with to make BLUFF what it was. So while I'm bound to leave a (2/6)

few names out, I want to thank those to whom I'll always be grateful. My staff: @tim00 @PaulOresteen & @Kevmath. You guys are amazing. (3/6)

I've had the privilege of calling @jesswelman, @lefty2432, @drewamato, @SrslySirius, @dianakcox & @randompoker employees at some (4/6)

Lastly, any & all of the pros and freelancers who wrote for BLUFF, you are simply the best & we couldn't have done it w/o you. --30-- (6/6)

Sad news, but not a huge surprise.

With the current state of legalization in the US, they probably realized there's no way to monetize their product in the short to midterm future. Unfortunately, that looks like a smart business decision.

Churchill probably extended it's life 2+ years, considering the Bluff sale was 2 months before Black Friday.

This isn't 2007. Poker media is now back to being a cottage industry, at best.

Poker is not dead. It is something that people still enjoy doing on a daily basis and has a huge base of fans. Just needs to get beyond the casino-advertising nexus. GPI and the fantasy draft approach can be part of that evolution... a 24/7 television station that elevates certain tours and tournaments, and broadcasts events soon after they happen is also a positive.

But yeah.. Bluff will be missed.. its strategy/hand analysis content was the best among the major publications.

I never read one bluff article so it's easy to see why it didn't work out. Reality is there's only enough fans for one poker online news place (not forums). 24/7 poker already exists on twitch. Most events can't be broadcasted soon after they happen due to editing time consumption or else they're showing very boring live poker. If anything I think it needs to stay within the casino nexus. Poker is replacing, not gaining fans at this point.

GPI is awful and needs to go away as it's not a metric of anything other than who did well in tournaments once.

Fantasy draft maybe for wsop is fine but that's super super niche.

You may have a point. The poker-centric world is small. And for a reason - gambling is hidden by many, not celebrated. But the emergence of personalities and marquee seasonal tournament events, broadcast in a quickly edited format very soon after they happen, would create more interest - at least for this (when all is said and done) casual fan.

No reason why fantasy drafts could not continue throughout the year in different series.

What makes you think gambling will be socially accepted in the near future or that there will be more personalities in the poker world?

I highly doubt both of that.
