My HS wrestling coach used to run several 100mile races per year. You have 24h to finish, or get disqualified. And the races usually stretched through pretty brutal mountains. He said there was one race in particular that zig zagged up and down the side of the mountains all the way around lake Tahoe. And this was a massively muscular guy, like 260, 8% bodyfat. So, ya, combine wrestler + skinny runner type == a lock in any kind of endurance bet.

He will regret winning that bet for the rest of his life. Too little money for the kind of permanent damage he did to his body.

after rest, he probably ran like 15 min miles. Hardly a recipe for permanent damage lol

Not to mention he got 300k and also added to his bank of self belief that if he sets his mind to something, he'll do it. If anything, he permanently damaged all limitations in his mind.

Sicko.
70 miles / 24 hours = 2.916 miles / hr = ~20 minute/mile..

How do you win this with only 45 mins left?

Also, isn't ashman the guy that is a former HS wrestler? if so, such a sick hustle by him.

After reading what ZJ posted, nevermind this post. Walking would have been infinitely easier.

Evidence of "permanent damage" plz.

Anyway, the treadmill is a pretty big plus. It would be substantially harder to do this bet outside.

Not that it was easy, of course. But it seems silly to take action against a wiry little fitness freak when, as others have said, 100-mile ultramarathons are far from unheard-of.

a wiry little fitness freak who was out partying the night before and only had 4 hrs of sleep and never trained his body for this sort of thing...

Why would Ashton have to lay any odds in this bet let alone 3-1?

did he run under his own name?

BFD, plenty of elite-caliber athletes do the same thing, because of nerves if nothing else. Long-term exhaustion would matter, but the night before isn't gonna make any difference.

And how, exactly, would you know that as a fact?

My guess: If you´re really, really well trained, you start out with say 7 miles an hour. Next hour: 6,5 miles, still feeling pretty comfortable. Next hour: 6 miles, and you really start hating life. Next hour: 5 miles, and you wan to kill yourself. Oh wait, you´re dead already. So it´s 4 hours in, and you ran a marathon. VERY well done sir, but you haven´t even completed 30 % of the task at hand.
And this may still be a fairly overoptimistic scenario.

Do you see where this is going?

Sick feat, and I agree with those who say Ashman will regret this and it probably isn´t worth it. He may well piss it away in a single week of nosebleed action.

I think we all have a pretty good idea how athletic the typical wrestler is.

If he's a college wrestler, I guarantee he's running at least 5-10miles per day every single day. It's also quite possible he's putting in alot of these miles AFTER 2-3hours of intense wrestling practice (which he does twice per day). Furthermore, I suspect he has some competition running experience based on his SN "lwrunner".

So, those of you that say he isn't prepared for this, not in good enough shape, or doing some sort of permanent damage to his body really have no clue what you are talking about. Far and away, the hardest part of this bet is the mental part, and that happens to be what wrestlers are best at. They know how to push their bodies to the next level, and how to keep their mind focused. They never give up.

Just fwiw, at the last wrestling camp I went to, we ended with a 41 hour workout. We broke 1 hour for meals, otherwise we were sprinting, wrestling, or lifting the whole time. After all that, we immediately finished up with a 16 mile run. So, even as a meh HS school wrestler, I would have LOL'ed at 24h of 20minute miles.

Walking does not count. I don't know what they set the line at, but presumably any mile in less than ~ 10 minutes did not count.
