Aria players want to ban Lederer

Nick DiVella is a 5/10NL reg, who is respected by the poker room staff, and he has a bunch of poker friends in Vegas.

Could this work?

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

So these players will boycott the Aria in favour of all those nearby poker rooms with Lederer bans in place. Hmmm.

I agree that he should be banned. The problem is do you then ban everyone with a shady past? There are a fair few in this game we play now.

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

Quote:
Wheeler called Lederer’s presence a “safety issue,” perhaps for Lederer himself.

When Lederer first returned to the tables, there were reports that Bellagio and Aria received death threat phone calls after he arrived to play.

Both casinos planted security guards in front of their respective glass-encased high-stakes tables.
They don't seem to care that he ripped everybody off but it seems that if they can be made to think his physical safety is at risk by being there, they might ban him for that.

Making death threats is a crime so I'm not advocating anybody call Aria and make a credible threat they're going to kill him - but that would seem to be the type of angle that will be effective here, not players signing a petition based on ethics and morals.

Yeah but if they lose enough business over it their hand could be forced.
But where is the line drawn after that? That mob mentality could get really out of hand.

Howard must have some set on him.... to be playing nosebleeds in one of the most crowded poker rooms in the world, with FTP reopening collecting rake, and players STILL not being repaid.... downright unbelievable.

Very few have the past of defrauding poker players everywhere. Shadiness can be overlooked. Shadiness that directly defrauded your customer base could be grounds for a ban.

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

Now that's what I'm talking about! Finally, forcing consequences on those who steal, scam, or otherwise disrespect the game in a way that causes others harm.

This is the perfect thing to do. Petition to have him banned. If the Aria does not want to ban him, then the players will take their business elsewhere. That is how it should work. The one problem I have is that they are playing in "Ivey's Room", which is another joke, but this is a start. At some point, Ivy, and those like him, are ethically obligated to cough up some of that scammed loot.

Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Russ Hamilton, and even guys like Phil Gordon, should NEVER be allowed to play in any casino ever again.

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

I basically started playing poker because my parents got me a PS2 game with Lederer on the cover. I had a modest $600 dollar BR on FTP, If he where to sit at my table I would look at him in shame grab my chips and walk away nodding my head. I would sign and try ot ban him not just from Aria but all rooms.

What if he was just banned from the poker room. Would that be enough?

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

it could and should work with enough players behind it but it looks like the casino doesn't give a s*it who plays as long as they rake some monies. so yeah they calling the petition signers bluff.

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

Has really nobody told this guy off? Seriously if that guy walked into a room I was playing in I would make him very uncomfortable. I find it hard to believe that a whole room of poker players didn't do anything.

Of course he should be banned. No need to think into it too much and say well if ya ban him ya gotta ban so and so. Nobody will have ever be able to match the damage he did to the poker community.

I posted in the BFI thread, this guy needs to be on "American Greed" on cnbc.

He shouldn't play until the US players get their money. Agree with DiVella that players should refuse to play with him until then.

Re: Aria players want to ban Lederer

I don't like this. It's not the casino's job to ban people who have pissed off the poker community. As far as I'm concerned, the only offenses worthy of being banned from a poker room are cheating at poker or being repeatedly, intolerably disruptive in the poker room.

I think players should feel free to make him feel unwelcome and I think it takes some real audacity on his part to show up, but I hope Aria doesn't give in to the pressure of this petition. I think it sets a bad precedent for the regulars to be able to agree to bar a player basically just because they don't like him. Casinos are not in the habit of barring white collar criminals and as of now Howard isn't even convicted of anything.

That's actually a very good reason to ban someone, not that a private company needs a reason to ban someone as long as their not being discriminated because they are in a protected class.

A lot of people were affected by FTP's actions and odds are there might be some unstable people in such a large sample. After BF I remember reading comments from people who made a living playing on FTP who had lost a lot because things snowballed. People have gone on spree killings for a lot less.

I wouldn't feel comfortable being around HL at this point. One whack job with bad aim and who knows who will get hurt. It's in Aria's best interest to ban him. If they don't they'll have to pay for increased security and big damages from the families of any innocent victims if something happens when they could have prevented it.
