I disagree....I think "not" saying anything is worse IMO. 60 minutes will make it look bad obv..but I am sure they will uncover things we all haven't heard of yet and also expose how these companies are run...I say bring it on.

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

If it gets put on 60 Minutes, most people's exposure to the story will be the 'teasers' they advertise during other shows (ie: "this week on 60 Minutes...") - and I guarantee that the trailer for the episode will make online poker look 'rigged'.

You seem to have completely different beliefs in the abilities of the media then I do and in how they generally "report" things

Agreed, this is not going to be a "feel good" 60 minutes story.

Its a popular show with the older folks

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

Why do you think this is bad??? A major news investigation on the runnings of a **** company that helped **** over people...I hope they go out of business tommorow! Pokerstars and FTP will more than likely be brought in to the debate and show how credible they are.

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

This can't be good. Even if 20 min. shows that cheaters are getting caught in the Absolute case. The players had to gather all the evidence and present it to Absolute who then did nothing with it until they had too because of all the outside pressure brought on them by 2+2 and Pocket 5's.

The fact that 20 min. has chosen the Absolute scandal as a way to report cheating in online poker will not be good for the online community.

I think this could be great news.
I like 60 Minutes and I believe any publicly is good publicly, FWIW.

How reliable is OP's source?
Just wondering.

This will only increase pressure on the government to take action on online poker.

there are two options:
1. outlaw online poker
2. regulate online poker, make it secure

obv 1 is far easier, so more likely.

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

funny how the sentiment of this forum swings from "zomg, we gotta do something, boycott, get the word, let the fish know, kill traffic on ub" to "zomg a major and well respected media publication is gonna run a story, this is horrid HORRID!"

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

My guess is that there are at least twenty 60 Minute stories which reach this stage of preproduction for every one story that actually makes it onto the show.

[ ] obv easier

ya, if it was so freakin easy, dont u think it would be illegal already? online gambling has been decently large here since like 99.

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

People are funny: first, we're upset that the story gets no airtime and no interest from any respectable media source, and now that it does, the first dozen responses are all rooted in "oh no, this will make online poker look bad!"

I actually think this kind of exposure might be good for online poker in the long run, and I'm not sure why everyone is bugging out.

Re: 60 Minutes considering Absolute Poker story

I would hope a story like this would have a third party from another site (ie: stars) giving an explanation about how this could never happen at there site and what security measures they take.

If its just a one sided focus that has promos every 10 minutes on NFL Sunday about how, ZOMG online poker is rigged, then its bad.

That being said I like 60 Minutes and personal biased aside I would be intersted in what they could uncover just because its a fascinating story.
