It's that time of the year again .

The Cards are in the air !!!

The early over/under for entrants this year is 6300 runners.

This represents about a 2% drop from last year's number of 6420 entries.

764 entrants on day 1A (up 3% from last year). That's a great sign for attendance, as for many years prior to today the number of 1A entries steadily declined while the number of 1C entries steadily increased.

I'll take the over at OP's line

I feel like this could be the year one of my sweat pieces make the November 9. Let's all get hyped! Although inevitably, the last remaining TV-famous and female players will finish 10th and 11th like usual

I believe day 1A has been on a Sunday the last couple (maybe more) years, with it being on a Saturday this year that could shift more entrants towards 1A this year. I'll be interested to see what the total numbers end up being.

I read an interesting observation that noted over 100% of the day 1A buy-ins from the 764 players ($7.18 million) will all go to just one person! WOW! And some people think 1st place still does not pay enough!? Really?

Is this year's min payout $15,000 and will the event be paying the top 1000 finishers ?

If so, this could lower the final table payout money considerably.

I think last year the final table 9th place finisher was guaranteed a $1,000,000 min ?

Allen Kessler Eliminated By Ahmed Abdella

Allen Kessler's opponent rivers a straight !

The river gives Abdella back the lead when he makes a straight, and Kessler is eliminated from play.

"That happens to me more times than you would believe," Kessler says as he gathers his belongings and heads to the rail.

Ahmed Abdella - 35,000

I hope Matusow or another "old school" pro makes a really deep run this year. Just binge watched some HSP and am feeling nostalgic

Using Kessler's logic he must of played bad because he busted on day one right?

Agree. It's fun to watch the 2005-2010 WSOP on YouTube. I'd rather stick needles into my eye than watch repeats of the last several years WSOP tank fest.

PHIL IVEY IN THE FIELD
Monday, July 11, 2016

The $111,111 One Drop and $50,000 Players Championship came and went without a Phil Ivey sighting, so his presence at the biggest poker tournament of the year wasn't a guarantee. But his loyal rail of Pat and Mel Humphries were spotted this morning, so that was an early sign that the ten-time bracelet winner - and unarguably one of the most famous players in the poker world - would, in fact be, here. Sure enough, he has just taken his seat at a table near the rail, and a small group of fans and spectators has already started to grow.
Stay tuned to find out if Ivey has another deep run in the Main Event in him.

Jason Mercier is listed (with the correct city/state) on the Day 1B end of day chip counts as having bagged like 53k. Yet they show him playing and pictures of him on Day 1C...Was someone with the exact same name on their bag somehow on Day 1B and they just automatically put in the incorrect city/state?

When Allen Kessler shoved all-in, his 5x, 5x was behind the Jx, Jx of his opponent.

Allen was way behind when the chips were shoved all-in.
