Where Can US Players Play? Where Can US Players Play?

04-16-2011 , 01:35 AM
I'm a US player who had a Full Tilt account as of this afternoon and who is already feeling pangs & poker-withdrawal. Assuming that someday I'll be getting my $ back from FT (and I realize that's a big assumption, but thankfully I don't depend on my bankroll for survival), would this be a bad time to open a new account on one of the other US-"friendly" sites that weren't banned today?

I'm thinking that although it might soon away like Starts & FT just did and it may one day just not be available, there might be a an outbreak of really stooopid playing because people feel like their days are numbered, so what the hell, I'll shove middle pair on this wet board, screw it?

Also, is it just a pipe dream to think that maybe things will be different for Merge, etc., because they were not named in the recent DOJ lawsuit (as they were not engaging in bank fraud) and they'll stick around a while longer?

What sites are on the merge network?

IF you can't go 24 hours or more w/o playing ipoker you are either:

A) A Degenerate Gambler

or

B) Addicted to ipoker

Either way you should probably seek help

Yes it is a bad idea for US players to deposit money onto internet poker sites until this situation is resolved.

Well isn't likely to be months or years before we can play on stars and ftp again?

Merge includes Carbon, Sportsbooks, among many others. It's the fourth largest behind Absolute/UBet. There's also Cake & Bodog technically still available.

Actually dude, I'm not. Can't tell if you were being serious, but if you were I think you missed the hint of irony in my original comment. No I don't need to play poker, my "pangs" aren't going to ruin my life, and as I said I don't rely on poker for income.

As someone who does this recreationally, I'm simply pondering whether the games are going to become really soft before it goes away completely for US players, and whether it might be worth it to put a few bucks ($ I can afford to put into a hobby) assuming that I'll eventually be able to cash out. That's all.

Since Full Tilt and Poker Stars are down, where can US players go to play?
04-16-2011 , 09:14 AM
I think that it would be very imprudent for a US player to start playing somewhere else until it becomes clear whether or not Stars, FTP and Cereus players are going to get their money back.

It could be wiser to wait to find out if any aftershock is coming.

In a van down by the river

I think it would probably be best to take up a new hobby for a while. It's eventually going to trickle down to the smaller sites like bodog, etc. Just my opinion though but I believe it'll happen.

You could always play with yourself.

Live.

Do not play poker online right now.

I could be hugely wrong .. but first off Bodog is so illegal yet it continues never played there won't now but it does continue and advertise.

Finally, I'm moving to Merge, I may lose my deposit heck I expect to lose my deposit, but that is the cost of the hobby I love. I figure this is the big gamble.

Finally I want to say to DOJ FU, I play poker, I'm playing poker and you can't stop me from playing POKER. Finally it is not illegal to PLAY poker online. I'm going to PLAY POKER.

Actually, it is illegal (in most of the U.S.) to play poker online. Those laws just generally haven't been enforced. Yet.

Obviously doesn't apply if you live in a legal gambling state.

Pretty much the same line of thought. I'd rather not deposit more money at the moment only to find out that too will be lost until some poker legislation is finally passed.

Unlike previous problems online poker has had though, I don't see these problems as going away any time soon.

So, your best bet of where you can play? The closest b&m poker room, be it 1 mile away or 1000 miles away.

The best I got is going to Vegas in June.

Eff online poker!
Spoiler:
Yes I am bitter

I live in CALIF but I don't want to drive to B&M, no one in calif is going to get prosecuted for poker. We might even have online in 2 years. We can get med marijuana and they don't prosecute that. I'm not to worried, but money will be taken but maybe I can get a cashout or so. Definitely, no worse than trip to vegas. BTW, I asked all my reps to pass poker regs. This will just be another point I can ad. Just got my tax return that will make a nice deposit.

Start a home game.

Play bar poker or "league" poker.
