Russ "Dutch" Boyd won his second World Series of Poker bracelet and $234,000 today.

Congratlations Dutch.

Just one question before you go out tonight with your other young turks and spend $5K on strippers and blow. Is there ANY chance that you have plans to pay some of the $56,838 you owe me?

Things are tight these days. I haven't made the rent or the health premium this month yet, but it should be easier for us soon now that the six operations, during the last year, mostly related to my wife's breast cancer are done.(fingers crossed it doesn't return) We are hoping she will be able to find a job soon.

ESPN has always shown what a rising star you are and while you have made some small mistakes you have toughed it and it has made you a better person for YOUR struggles. I hope the many interviews go well.

I can't wait to see you on the featured tables and wish you the best in the main event. You got robbed with that 12th place finish missing the final table a couple of years ago.

All the best.

When I heard of Dutch's win, there was a little bitterness that drove me to post here and I also e-mailed almost the exact wording to Dutch. I received a prompt and cordial reply.

"I think a lot about the raw deal you and Lesley got from Pokerspot. I
really would like to make it right somehow."

After he swapped concern about what breast cancer does to our family members, I replied. Part of my reply:

"Lesley told me about your talk the day after your 2nd in razz to T.J. and if it wasn't for the money thing that I would like you. Clearly you
are a winning poker player with some game.

If this can be made right it would go a long way with Lesley, Joceyln and I.
Lesley is living in FL with her parents after losing her job in Bakersfield
CA about a month ago.

I wish you well during the rest of the series/sarcasm off/ lol

Truthfully, I respect you for doing this."

So, for now I DO wish him well. I expect him to address the issue after the series. I do think that with his talent that cleaning up his image is positive on many levels.

For my part, I gave up the rants about this topic years ago. If it wasn't for the spot I currently find my wife and I in I wouldn't have posted here about this, but continue to throw the remote at the tv(chicken wire about 6in in front of the screen seems to work best) during October and November.

Anyways I wish everyone here well, but I plan to see how things work out quietly from this point on.

Nice to see you again MS. Sorry to hear about your wife's battle. That sucks.

One of the last times you posted about this (maybe 3-4 years ago perhaps?) you seemed to imply or indicate that it had kind of been taken care of. I'm not sure really but you seemed to leave one with that impression. Not sure if you remember...and there's no freaking way I'm going to try to untangle the search feature or the archives to try to find it.

Cliffs for those who weren't on 2+2 many years ago: Dutch Boyd who has become kind of an ESPN darling used to own a site called pokerspot in maybe 2002 or so (before he was made more famous by his TV appearance during Moneymaker's run in 2003). The site went under and some of the players lost their funds which Dutch promised to make good on. Evidently, MS is STILL owed over $50k.

So go ahead and think about how much this type of stuff can REALLY suck the next time you feel like whining about the bad beat you took with AA or something.

Thx Bob for the update on what happened in the past. MS I sincerely hope that Dutch is true to you when he said he will try to do some right from some past wrong doings. I hope that all gets better with your family.

I feel for MS and his family and hope best for them, but maybe I am missing something. Sometimes people make bad investments and have to pay the consequences, or is there more to it?

I think that comparing this to a bad investment isn't really accurate. It's not like he was buying shares in the company and was okay with assuming that part of risk.

If I remember correctly, the site stonewalled him on his attempts to cash out but promised that everything was okay. Then everything wasn't okay but he was promised that he would be paid back HIS money. The players got these types of promises that they would be paid their money on multiple occasions. Which never happened obviously.

Okay...did a little google searching and found some of the archived threads about this for anyone who is interested in all this nonsense.

2003 - http://archives2.twoplustwo.com/show...sb=5&o=&fpart=

2004 - http://archives2.twoplustwo.co/showt...?Number=567339

There are other threads too of course but those were the ones I was able to find right away.

And here's an old article that mentions some of the stuff also:

Note that none of ESPN's treatment and discussion of Boyd and/or "The Crew" or any of that nonsense from a few years even hints at any of this stuff.
