I've been dabbling in the hyper turbos lately and making a bunch of mistakes. If you feel like sharing any specific ones that you have observed and/or remember, PM me!
Great thread, thank you.
Haha I was only half-joking about the emails anyway. I mean I certainly don't mind that a few people did email them, but I doubt it makes all that much difference in who they pick.
Objectively, here's how I see my chances. The positives are that I have a reasonably popular online name and have a few followers at the tables. I enjoy chatting with randoms that want to chat with me (unless I have 25 tables going, and even then I still try to chat). Something like 99.99% of my online action is at Stars, and I think their site is miles ahead of any other site in almost any aspect, and would be happy to promote them to people. Also I got the most vpps in the history of their site and got to elite quicker than anyone else has, both of which probably can't hurt my chances.
The negatives are that I'm probably older than what I imagine they're looking for (I'm 32, and I picture this promo as being geared mostly towards early 20somethings). I'm American, and I'm guessing they will prefer non-Americans over Americans, all else being equal. I play freaking hyperturbo sngs, which aren't exactly the most marketable form of poker...I see this as being geared towards mtt players more than any other form, although I could be wrong. While I do play pretty much every wsop and wcoop event, I barely play any live besides the wsop. Also I don't have a blog (it's possible I'll start one at some point) and I'm not a part of any website or training site, and it's pretty unlikely I'll ever be part of a training site unless I get an amazing (read: unrealistic) offer, as it's really just not worth it for me to do, and frankly doesn't sound all that fun.
And yes I'm not even 100% sure I would want the deal if offered. If it was a huge time commitment and took me away from my normal playing and vacation schedule then yeah I'd probably turn it down. That being said, I certainly wouldn't mind doing things here and there to help them and I would enjoy representing them at the live tourneys that I do play if that's called for.
As for mistakes in hypers, here's the thing. I've only played a few with you that I can recall, mostly during wcoop. I don't remember any glaring mistakes that you made, but almost certainly you are making some that I never saw. I mean I've played over 60k hypers and I still make mistakes. But here's the catch with hypers. They seem really easy to play at first. And realistically they're not that hard to play decently well. But they're deceptive. The hardest thing about them is that in a normal sng, a good player will rarely be able to make a mistake that costs him more than like 1-2% expected roi for that tourney as long as he has studied icm. In the hypers it's not all that rare for otherwise decent players to make various mistakes that cost them 10% or more expected roi in that tourney. And they make these mistakes over and over without realizing that they're making them. So while there are probably less mistakes to make in a hyper, the mistakes that people do make can be really really bad ones.
Glad you enjoyed the thread, and best of luck in the games.
