Exclamation Urgent Notification for PokerStars Players -- Please Read

PokerStars would like to alert everyone to a problem that will be affecting some players very soon.

For users running older versions of the software, the SSL Encryption Certificate will be expiring on May 21. If you are running the latest version of our software, this will not affect you at all. If you received an update in the last 4-5 days, then you have the newest version.

However, if you are running an older version of our software, you may not be able to connect to the server. The current version of the software is 2.487; you can check your version number by going to Help > About PokerStars in the main lobby. If the number is lower than that, you are running outdated software.

Should you not be able to connect to the server after May 21, the solution to this problem is to go to the PokerStars website and download/install the latest version.

PC users can download the latest version here:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/download/

Mac users can download it here:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/download/mac/

Once you have installed the latest version, you should be able to connect and login to the software normally.

There is an alternative (and slightly more complicated) way to get this update after May 21. If you set your system date back to May 20 or earlier, and then launch the game client from your desktop, the software will download and install only the update. After you complete the update process, you should then re-set your system date to the correct one.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for playing on PokerStars.

All the best,

Bryan S.

Thanks for the warning. I haven't played much on stars lately and you've saved some headaches for others too I'm sure.

What is the point of doing this? Was there some major security issue?

Did 2.491 replace 2.487?

90% of players click the icon labeled PokerStars on their desktop, which actually launches PokerStars Update first.

I, however, specifically avoided upgrading because of a hand history import issue between a recent update of Stars and PokerTracker 2. I'm glad I saw this message, I'll be sure to update tonight.

I think this message was specifically directed toward the latter group of people... or other powerusers who, for whatever reason, have not been automatically updating.

Did the "hide full tables" button disappear in the new update?

edit: aahhh - I see its combined with the ring game filter -
that lets you select specific stakes - VNH Pokerstars

I just tried logging into PokerStars and couldn't. So I followed your directions and downloaded the neweste version. It says UPDATED FAILED, expired certificate or wrong time settings. Now what can I do to fix this?

It sounds like you just ran the update and didn't download a new install from the web.

You can 'probably' just browse My Computer to: C:\Program Files\PokerStars and run the : PokerStarsUpdate.exe. That 'should' launch stars and ask u to OK the Update. It sounds like you have been avoiding the auto-updates for a while.

I think that was exactly the problem, because I had the problem and tried to go through auto update, and it failed, so then I reinstalled PS.
