Have you never heard of an income tax refund? Also I don't think CPA means what you think it means.

You obviously haven't been following this conversation. My point was why would you wait for a tax refund that would be 13 months later when you could of had that money to re-invest or earn interest on and pay when its due. I obviously understand the concept of a tax refund. I also understand what a CPA is, I just used that as quick way of explaining why I wouldn't want the casino to make tax decisions for me. If you win 8K online you don't have to pay it immediately once it is withdrawn - you simply pay your taxes at the end of the year. Why should live poker be any different then other income filed by a professional gambler. Or live cash games for that matter because you could win 1K a day in cash games for 30 days straight- you wouldn't have to pay the taxes on that immediately. Taxes aren't do only a daily basis - that is the point I am trying to make. I don't want the casino doing the withholding when I am self employed and I do my own withholding.

Just emailed Bovada support about this and that promo was apparently only for some "random players".

Their response:

"Thanks for contacting Bovada Poker Customer Service.

We acknowledge your inquiry regarding our Super Bowl 2012 promotion. Please be advised that this promotion is offered to random players on our site. However, we do have promotional offers which are emailed out on a regular basis. To ensure that you properly receive bonus notifications, kindly make sure that your email address on file is updated."

So no such luck for me on that one unless a late-arriving email comes my way.

I got the same email when I asked about a promo a few months ago. They offer bonuses and promos to certain customers. I've never gotten any special offer besides what's site wide. I'll take a King of the Felt Heads up match. Throw me a bone Bovada.

LOL, figures. I started playing there in 2005 and never once got any sort of email from them with any promo. Even the ones that they said they send to all customers, never got a single one. I know of several others who didn't receive a single thing from them either. I get it that their ****ty programmers can't figure out how to write software, but you'd think they could figure out how to work email.

Are you for real? They take out the taxes then you get your profit.

Spoken like someone who has never filed taxes...

Gemaco, I assume it works just like any other withholding. You file taxes to figure out your tax liability once a year, then they compare that to how much you've paid over the year to determine if you get a refund or owe a balance.

This will be my last post on this - we are clearly not on the same page here.

Try to follow this scenario with your 3rd grade logic:

Jan - you lose 10,000 playing poker
Feb - you lose 5,000 playing poker
March - you win 15,000 playing poker

Therefore, as a professional gambler, your taxable income is 0.00. Is that so hard for you to understand?

So, if the casino takes 30% of your 15,000 score - that is not money that was taxable. Therefore you shouldn't have to wait 13 months to get that refund.

Clearly this is too much for you to handle. I should have posted this in the tax thread. Sorry.

Correct, I figured this is the standard. I was just wondering if the casino doing the withholding was required or if you could request the whole sum and pay the taxes on your own (with obviously filling out the paperwork at the casino to confirm your winnings - which they send to the IRS).

I think thats a great question for B&M, asking a troll whose credibility seems to be "lacking" doesnt seem like a good idea.

FYI: I've never had money kept by the casino, but I only play cash games.

Does anyone remember what kind of numbers you were getting in terms of hands per hour per table at both full ring and 6max? I'd like to at least have some kind of guestimate at the number of hands I'm playing.

Little dumbfounded by the number. Looked at old database for 6max was 29 hands per hour. Curious hear here others have on this.

They are required to report it, not hold it. Some states impose holding requirements on casinos for out of state players (in fear that those players will return home and never pay), but the federal gov't does not have such a restriction. I have won over 5k in a live tournament and had nothing withheld.

Last year in 42k hands of 6 players or more on Bodog, I played 425 hours. I'm not sure how many tables that ended up being...I'd guess probably an average of 3. So that's around 30 hands/hr. Is there an easy filter in HEM to figure it out?

Bodog's previous software had serious bugs that went unfixed for 5+ years. They then touted this great client that was supposed to be the best in the industry, and managed to release something with even more bugs. They haven't addressed any issues at all and have gone as far as flat out lying to their customers time and time again. What makes you think they're going to put any attention at all to these bugs?

I know but the thing is they have fixed a bunch of bugs (3 or 4 new updates since the big software release) so I don't see why they can't fix these.
