I don't think Phil Galfond hired bottom-tier developers for his new site Run It Once, but that thing is a disaster. Furthermore, given how long Party Poker has been around and their bankroll they are also an embarrassment. Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker are the only ones that got it right.
But anyhow, the best thing is to have a strong code that is adaptable or keep starting from scratch. Merge finally ended up with a reasonable looking and working site.
Pokerstars and Party Poker both were founded in 2001. That truly shows the hit or miss potential. Pokerstars is an all time great software and Party Poker software is still crap.
