Re: UBUNTU / Linux / Wine / FTP

I have "Allow Window Manager to Control Windows" checked, and it both pops up and appears in the taskbar normally. It's probably because you upgraded from an ancient version of Ubuntu. I always do clean installs

Just for the record I am using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. Would you instead of posting these smart ass answers share your wine configuration?

Re: UBUNTU / Linux / Wine / FTP

I don't know what it is. It's the default configuration. I did'nt change anything. Maybe you're using some advanced desktop effects or none at all. Im on Xubuntu now with default desktop effects settings: not none, but minimal. I have the problem you're talking about in Kubuntu, with KDE4, but not GNOME or XFCE

Re: UBUNTU / Linux / Wine / FTP

There is a learning curve if you don't Linux at all and want to play but there is no reason that most clients can't work fine under Ubuntu with Wine and a little patience/reading. I'm using Hardy Heron distribution and was a complete newbie when I started using Linux.

I currently play at Titan and Pokerstars with no major problems except for window re-sizing at Pokerstars. A workaround is to go into the Pokerstars client and tile the tables if you want to multi-table which alleviates the problem for most people.

The best advice I can give if you want to use Linux is that when you get the client(s) working with one distribution don't upgrade just for the sake of it. I had major problems with Jaunty Jackalope because of AMD and ATI drivers. It was a big pain in the ass and I ended up reverting to the old distribution.

My suggestion would be to just use Windows however unless you have some compelling reason not to. It will save you a lot of time if you're anything like me.

The client has a workaround for that.

Edit ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/PokerStars/user.ini and under [Options] add:
Code:
f5redrawtable=1
When you resize a table, hift F5 and the contents are scaled to the new size.

Re: UBUNTU / Linux / Wine / FTP

I'm having the same "disappearing window" issue some other users are describing. Running on Ubuntu 9.04 and Wine 1.0.1. Using Gnome.

If I'm on a different virtual desktop then the one the table window is on the table disappers when an alert is fired. The only way I've found to get the table back is to hit ctrl+0 or ctrl+9 on the same virtual desktop that the lobby is running on. This which will tile tables or cascade them and will bring the table back into view.

Other then that main issue, PS seems to be running well.

When I get a chance I'll give Xfce a chance and see if it works better.

I can confirm with above setup using Xfce 4.6.0 it works extremely well. Looks like Xfce will be my poker WM.
