THURSDAY & FRIDAY POKER ACTION PLAN: Tell MI lawmakers to support online poker THURSDAY & FRIDAY POKER ACTION PLAN: Tell MI lawmakers to support online poker

With the introduction of the Barton online poker bill, let's all make sure we are respectfully telling Congress that we demand our rights! Let's continue to hit this on Facebook today, following up up with emails and phone calls starting tomorrow.

Let's also be sure to get page views for articles on the issue. I submitted a good article to digg.com, where I am a top 30 "digger". If you like the article, please upvote it here.

Let's focus on members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce (The ones with an x in front of their names means they don't have open posting. Just respond to a post already on the page.) As we have a new event with the introduction of this poker bill, let's go ahead and continue to own these pages.

For manageability, I subdivided them into subgroups:

Group A
Group B
Group C
* Thanks Sajeffe for putting this list together

With the introduction of the Rep. Barton's Online Poker Act of 2011, let's all make sure we are respectfully telling Congress that we demand our rights!

I wrote an all-new letter to President Obama and Congress that everyone can send in under 60 seconds. Let's all send these three letters now. Once done, please reply ITT with "done", "sent", etc. to encourage others. Thanks!

Let's continue to own a lot of Facebook pages (senators, Congressmen, Congressional committees, etc.). Rep. Barton has cited our Facebook posts, so we know it works.

  • The Dept. of Justice's Facebook page is here.
  • We need lots of posts on the issue of poker and lots of "liking" of pro-poker comments.
Finally, let's recruit others. Our personal recommendations of this effort will go far. The daily action plan takes very little time and there's no denying it's way +EV for the time invested. Once done, please post here that you made the request, along with posting your personal commitment to participate in the action plan. I created a short URL for this thread that should help with sharing: http://******/takeaction

I spoke with my pro-poker Congressman's Chief of Staff today. I ask him "Have the facebook posts been noticed by the other member of congress" He replied with "The Chairman (Fred Upton) has noticed them" "So keep the presure on"

So the facebook postting campain has been getting noticed. Lets keep it up.

Let's all call Congress and respectfully demand our rights. These should be short, friendly calls. These are not debates, so there is no need to worry about preparation. Rather, the goal of the call is simply to let these lawmakers know that their constituents support the right to play.

For the phone numbers of your elected representatives, either click here or visit the PPA Take Action page and scroll down to item #2.

Here are some tips on what to say to the staffer who answers the phone:
  • I am a constituent, voter and a poker enthusiast.
  • (For Representatives) Please support H.R. 2366, a bipartisan bill to license and regulate Internet poker.
  • (For Senators) H.R. 2366 has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. I would like the Senator to support Senate legislation to license and regulate Internet poker.
  • Regulation means strong consumer protections as well as billions of dollars in federal and state revenue.
  • Please support my freedoms and support this bill.
  • Thank you.
  • I would like a response from the Representative/Senator.
After your call, tell PPA how it went, at http://go.theppa.org/callfeedback. Then, please post ITT to encourage others. Thanks!

It's just some speculation. There's nothing in any bill calling for this.

The White House announced through its official Twitter account, @whitehouse, that it will host its first ever Twitter town hall on Wednesday, July 6 at 2PM ET in the East Room of the White House. Twitter co-founder and Executive Chairman Jack Dorsey will moderate a conversation between President Obama and Americans across the country about the economy and jobs.

We can submit a prepopulated question asking the President if he supports licensing and regulating online poker by clicking here. Or, submit your own poker question to President Obama by clicking here. Please don’t forget to use the hash tags #poker #askobama.

So, let's all do this one tomorrow before 2 pm ET.

Also, let's all continue to own the Facebook walls of House Judiciary Committee members. Please remember to revisit these walls to like the posts and comments made since your last visit. Thanks!

H.R. 2366, the Online Poker Act, has been referred to three committees in the House: Energy and Commerce, Judiciary, and Financial Services. This is the third and final list of committee members (for the House) -- Financial Services. Let’s Facebook them!

The FOR/AGAINST/UNDECIDED/UNKNOWN after each name is based on H.R.1174, the Campbell/Frank online gaming bill. The names with an “x” in front of them are those who do not allow direct posting on their Facebook wall.

No problem for us. Just post a comment in response to a post already on the page. PLEASE BE SENSITIVE about this though. If the post says the Congressperson is being treated for cancer, don’t bother them with poker. Tell them to get well soon. Be sensitive to what’s going on in their state too – wild fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, etc. And PLEASE say please and thank you. Courtesy goes a long way.

Oh, and let’s all try to get the bill number correct. It’s H.R. 2366.

Let's all also remember to revisit these walls to like the posts and comments made since your last visit. Thanks!
