Hahaha that's pretty funny man. Were the games at least more competitive than what you'd see on a site like Zynga or other play money games?

Hey Whitelexton, when you said you couldn't get the computer to work at all, what do you mean? If you are using an up to date browser it should work. Could you let us know and we'll look into it right away. And thanks for the feedback.

Better connection reliability is definitely in the works. And we will be adding Pot Limit, Fixed Limit, higher stakes, MTT, etc., as soon as their are enough players to sustain them.

I want to commend you for having the passion to undertake such a project. I've been to the site and read How It Works along with the FAQs. Nice first effort overall. May you find success which will allow you to keep improving and turn a profit.

One thing I don't like is the one account per household as I live in a household with two poker players. You should allow multiple players per household and just make them provide proof of identity upon demand or when cashing out.

Just something to think about.

Thanks for the responses thagoodlife. I find the play to be a lot better than free poker sites I've played in the past. I think you've done a good job of reaching your early goals for the site. Keep it up, and good luck.

Something I have not seen addressed yet is the borderline unbeatable rake. The SnGs are raked at 25% (.20 + .05). If this site picks up any traffic and accumulates anything but the worst players, beating the rake will be more about running like God in the quarter games than it will be about being particularly good. If I had to guess, the decision of what kind of rake-structure would be put into action on the site probably hinged strongly upon what sort of structure would be effectively unbeatable in the long-run.

Software overall seems much nicer than LiveAce though, which is the other competitive money-for-free site. And I have managed to run my first quarter up to like $3.85 so far, so either I am leaps and bounds better than my competition or I am running like God.

+1

Am I missing something obvious? How do you tell which players are bots?

If I see certain people playing that are always in every game I play no matter when I play them that never chat and always make absolutely absurd moves, they are most likely bots.

That said, these bots are horrible. If there was ever a time to try and beat the rake at this site, it is right now, when as many as two-thirds of your table are horribad poker playing robots.

Yeah, the bots are pretty awful, but consciously so. The bots are necessary because we've found most players would rather play bots than wait forever for real users to fill up a tournament. AND, players tend not to fuss about it too much if they can beat them the majority of the time haha. So it's a decision we made, but it's not a great decision for the health of the site as a whole. Hopefully we'll be able to take them off soon, and then the site's dynamic will be much more natural. And we've set it up (with the 20% rake), so that it is not a cake walk to $50. Based on our estimates, the top 15-20% of players will make it.

Something is completely wonky with the QuarterPoker Software. I just finished a 20 player SnG and bizarre things were happening. We had two players sitting in the same seat. Sometimes the button disappeared completely. Some times the blinds were in the wrong order and on the wrong side of the button. There was a player sitting with 355 chips and never ever receiving a hand ( I assume he had busted, but the avatar never disappeared.) Once I was playing against some player who was invisible I lost the pot and the chips vanished off the board. Is anyone else having such experiences.

This Tournament ended at roughly about 9:45 EST Nov. 19

Hey Combo,

That's really strange. We are always patching the system to make it run smoother, but haven't heard anything like what you've described. Would you mind if we monitor you while you play at a table? PM me and we can get this figured out. We'd really appreciate your help! Or if you've played since, did you experience the same problems?

I only experienced this at the 20 player game and have not played it since. I think it happened when the 2 short handed tables were combined and somehow two players were assigned the same seat, probably bots. Otherwise you would have heard about it I imagine. I think all of the other observed behavior is result of the over seat assignment. I would go over that bit of the software If I were you. Sure you can monitor me, but I don't think it will help. I'll PM you if it happens again.

I also have a few constructive suggestions that I could PM you about or hash them out here if you like.

I finally found this thread after hearing about this on the 2+2 Pokercast. My first reaction was that the competition (in terms of taking it seriously) is *worse* than the play chip games I've dabbled in on FTP. There, people will actually fold to check-raises even though it's just lolplaychips.

But as you said, your bots are really bad. And I can't tell who is a bot and who is a real player who had just become a regular. So when I see someone with 13BB min raise UTG with 63o and then call off his stack after he gets reraised and someone else 4-bet shoves, I don't know if it's your bot, or some really bad player that we are supposedly getting away from. I haven't run Pokerstove on that, but I'm guessing 63o has pretty crappy equity in that situation.

But I at least appreciate what you're trying to do. The problem is that this is basically a free roll, and people are treating it like they treat free rolls on cash sites. Plus, your structures that put a starting stack under 10BB in the 4th level invite all-in shoves anyway.

That being said, I've run my $0.25 up to $5.35.

+1 for all this.

Also:

1) You need some kind of periodic notification in the chat of where you stand and who's busting out (only needed on the 2-table SNG obviously).

2) In the "You finished Xth" notice, it never says how much you won if you cash.

Hey Combo,

Please, PM me, or post them here. The site still has a long way to go in terms of feature implementation, but we just wanted to get a basic site up to make sure people liked the core concept of the site. We have a lot of ideas ourselves, but player feedback has been crucial.

So please, let us know!

So basically these are $.25 freerolls, unless you have a balance, in which case you have to pay the entry fee. They have to make a minimum of $.26 per player per day in advertising to make this scheme profitable, not including overhead.

Frankly this is about as profitable as those "watch ads and get paid" deals, except you have to work as well.

First of all, this isn't a "scheme", it's a legitimate poker site. And second, no we don't. Most users won't make it to $50, so it's actually a lot, lot less than that.

O.K. Here are some suggestions.
  1. I cannot read the site without wearing reading glasses. If there were a large print version that would be great. The worst is where you write "the blinds" in pink on a red background and in particular to the right of the "the blinds" is "next level" written in print so small I can only read it while wearing glasses and squinting in full brightness. At least write these two in a larger font and in a contrasting color.
  2. When you have folded you are given a ghost image of your cards. The red suits are almost invisible against the red background. I suggest you change the felt to a traditional green or beige.
  3. In muti-table games I suggest including a tab next to the chat tab that gives basic statistics.
  4. I would very much like to be able to obtain a file that has the hand history for the entire tournament. I like to study and annotate such files for future reference and communication.
  5. I would like to see some 30,40,50 player tournaments. This would better mimic the sort of tournaments you find in small brick and mortar card-rooms.
  6. Add some re-entry and/or re-buy tournaments as are found in many card rooms.
Now for some controversial comments. I see quarterpoker as a site to practice for real brick and mortar poker and not as a place to generate a living wage income. Thus I think you should endeavor to supply as close as possible the live experience. In particular
  • Prohibit third party real-time data collection software, e.g. huds.
  • Prohibit multi-tableing.

I got an e-mail that there is a 200-person max, no-bots tournament at 7pm EST today.

I think prohibiting HUDs is fine, but 2+2ers are always going to say the only way to really do that is not send hand histories, and if you don't send hand histories we can't catch superusers.

Multi-tabling is fine if no HUDs are allowed. If you can play 16-tables profitably without a HUD, more power to you.

Combo,

I don't think saying that QP isn't a place to make a living wage income is controversial. Anyone who looks at the present traffic would realize it isn't. But to do things that would keep it that way and make it more like live poker might be nice for the players, but wouldn't be nice for the operators of the site.

I'm not sure how you conclude this. I suppose your saying that by catering to such players their traffic would be less than what it could be, but I see no evidence to support this. Or do you mean that it would put a burden on the site operators to "keep it that way". If so than I think I agree with you.
