Did not see the thread yet, also ran a search to see if already has a thread, so apologies if I missed it, but a pretty interesting monetization model for the game.

http://quarterpoker.com/

http://pokerfuse.com/features/in-dep...to-play-12-11/

The promo video is on the fuse link as well.

Runs on Cubeia´s awesome platform, which the last time I checked ran very well.

edit: changed the title for clarity. Ty, GMLAW. Forgot to add.

Read the terms on the site. Maybe misread, but did not actually notice anywhere that they will specifically restrict non-US players.

edit: from FAQ it seems that to cash out you have to be in US and over 18.

Regarding the bots. Haven´t tried it on QuarterPoker, but those Cubeia bots are definitely horrible and are nothing like for example bots infesting iPoker and serve the exact reason of getting games running in the beginning. At least they were when I tried the HTML5 platform when it came out.

Ads. But not yet. Like youtube and facebook I think they're trying to get popular before they do ads and start making a profit.

And why would we spend valuable time doing this?

I want to know if they plan to let non-US player play in the future. I don't see why it won't just mean more profits for them.

How is this different than facebook/zynga poker? Is real money involved? Can't check site, as I'm at work.

If I don't like it, do I get my quarter back?

Back how, if you're not paying anything?
And you get 25c every 24 hours so yeah... You get it back :P

I've read the article and I had to laugh at them saying they have been cleared by a leading gambling attorney. Didn't FTP and PS say the same thing? It didn't save them from the US government.

Interesting concept but I think it is on shaky financial ground based on reading the article.

Hey,

One of the players on our site sent us the link to this thread. This is Alex, one of the guys behind Quarter Poker, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys have.

And in regards to the legality, this truly is 100% legal, because users never pay a penny. FTP and PS got in trouble because they were accepting money from players.

BUT they got assurances from attorneys, in one case Catherine Hathaway (sp) the former US Attorney for Eastern District of Missouri, that what they were doing was legal. This is the same claim you are making. You are saying we're legal and top attorneys have said so. IT DOESN'T MATTER.

Also, what happens to someone who lives in a state where they can't be a paying member when you go to paying memberships?

You might let one of the mods of 2plus2 know you are on here. Glad you are here but there are special rules you need to follow. I don't know what they are, I just know they exist.

And where are the quarters you are giving everyone to play with? Do they really exist or is real money something you won't worry about until someone is ready to cash out?

Alex,

The article says you can cash out at 2:1 when you hit $50 in your account. You gave the example of cashing out $25 when you run it up to $50 but it didn't clarify whether that was the max cashout payable. If a player runs it up to $100,000, will you cash them out for $50K?

What happens to their balance if it gets over $50? What happens to their balance when they cashout?

I read the article, it sounds like that site that gives bettors a free dime to try and make a bankroll to like 10 bucks by betting the games and has all the bets a betting site offers ie. parlays, teasers etc. Do they take a rake? Do they offer cash games where you can play with your quarter?

Hey Doc,

I mean, I guess nothing is guaranteed in this industry, but http://sportsplays.com runs a very similar model except for sports betting, and they've been operating for several years.

And that's why we haven't rolled out the membership program yet. There is a lot more legal red tape in that area. There are only something like 31 states its legal in, and we need to have our lawyers look into this more before we will be ready to offer it.

And thanks for the heads up. I'll do that right now.

Hey Mike,

Right now you are able to cash out up to $100/year. But that will increase dramatically as the site grows. We just needed to cap it while we first start out so we don't sink right away from a bunch of huge cashouts =)

Just because someone is doing something without federal interference doesn't mean it's legal. It could mean the feds consider them way down the list of irritants.

Perhaps when you're back QP rep you can answer the question re. US players only? Seems to be some confusion ITT.

How will you guys prevent people from multi accounting/using their own bots so they can farm 25 cents per account per day. They all sit at the same table and one min raises and everyone else folds, repeat for as long as needed to earn the 25 cents per account, and none go busto.

Personally I don't see anything exciting about this (compared to all the current sites/apps) for those that want to play fake poker like Senator McCain, and this 25 cents per day thing will do nothing to motivate people to play more seriously, unless the market of people who take it seriously for pennies is bigger than I assume.

Not sure why you changed your name, but if it was voluntary, I want to say I liked the old one better because was more descriptive of who you are.
