PokerStars....thanks for losing me my bank account

Background:

I received a check from PokerStars, deposited it and then came home and saw the news re: the government seizures. I immediately emailed Stars support to find out if my check was ok and whether I should feel free to spend my money.

I was assured that my check was good about 24 hours or so later, so I withdrew the cash. As I am unemployed, I have very little extra cash on hand at the moment.

After the money had been spent on food and expenses, I get an email from Stars telling me that the check is no good.

I contact my bank to let them know that I had deposited a bad check and to assure them that I would get the funds back in the account ASAP. I end up incurring over $60 in fees, $32 of which Stars covered.

After going back and forth with the bank, I was informed that because I deposited a bad check within a year of opening my account, they were closing it. The only way to fix this would be to get a letter from the issuing party stating that it was an issue with their bank (they don't have to admit fault) and fax it in.

Believe me, I understand that the government screwed a lot of people here, but I took the time to email Stars support and they completely screwed me.

PokerStars says tough luck basically.

There is no shortage of banks. If you can't provide the requested paper work just open a account elsewhere.

ChexSystems FTL?

I think the play here is to tell the bank he'll have that letter faxed to them by the end of the week, then open an account elsewhere while they're waiting for it. By the time they give him the chexsystems banhammer, he'll be long gone.

You need a letter from the US Government not Star, imo the cheque from Star was good, but the Govt froze the funds.

It's not dodging or getting out of the way. this would apply to not only gambling mix ups with the bank. If a individual bank chooses to no longer to business with a customer, you open a new bank account.

Chex systems is a different story, i recall grannymae commenting that this is not always the case, it's not implemented in every individual situation.
