Thanks for all the great input.

I like OP have a instant VPN connection whenever I go online. A little while back my VPN disconnected whilst I was in a country where gaming was prohibited.
To my attack I knew it was prohibited but I travel a lot for work and sometimes a hotel room is just another hotel room - oblivious to the country it is in.

Thus I'm in the same situation as OP however my situation has yet to be resolved. I'll update later.

Bit of a bump here, but last year somebody sharing the same skype group as me was caught playing on stars.com via Spain, using VPN.

He's subsequently been banned. And most damagingly for him, his stars.es account is also banned. He never played on both accounts simultaneously, but i fully agree with stars decision.

I wondered if there was any sort of precedent for this.

Does he have any chance of being re-instated to play on .es?

I'm assuming that your buddy full well knew that what he doing was wrong/wasn't just a 1 time thing that he could say was an accident.

If the above is the case I really don't think he has much chance. If stars were to allow him then everyone would have a case.

yeah. Doesn't surprise me to hear that, just wondered.

I guess they regard this much more a serious offence than when, for example, a 17 year old opens an account and plays then comes clean when they are old enough?

He's emailing Stars.es to see what his fate will be. So guess I'll find out.

has anyone lost their passport or other repercussions beyond lost funds?

Saltwatercowboy you only send them a copy of your passport.

Poker stars reinstated my account with a warning and advised me to never connect using a vpn connection again. No funds were seized.

Cheers
M

yep, I did the same stupid thing. Played for pennies while in the US, VPN is always on while traveling. The few drinks I had may have been a factor for my IQ lowering. Playing for pennies is fun. Ho well , throw myself on the mercy of the court. Loosing the funds is inconsequential ( its only two happy meals ) but a ban would be regrettable.

There is one item that I would like to state if Poker Stars is reading this forum. Stars can detect play while a user is connected to a VPN service. I ask: Stars please place a pop-up or something for people traveling in the US with a VPN when you detect these occurrences. This would of helped me.

I don't think the client itself can determine if you are connected via VPN. I'm guessing most people get caught because of a dropped connection while playing and then it connects to the IP inside the US.

I don't think it is their responsibility to tell a player not to connect via VPN.

numberonedonk: I can agree its not their responsibility. But it would be a nice service to their clients.

Tbh I think what you're asking for is pretty much what you're getting. In both my and OPs case we got warned and we have one more chance.

If I remember correctly from reading through their ToS they don't forbid VPN and also they don't have a "VPN-detector" but by looking at the IP-address they can backtrack to some, typically larger, VPN providers that use ranges and random IPs.

Thus if you're flagged, like most probably you me and OP is now if they check up on our IPs and see same IP as when admittedly on VPN they might ask us to prove our whereabouts for the time period.

PS ended their mail with strongly advising me to not play on a VPN.
