So if I'm Supernova, I can get a kick start for this promo by earning something like 8990 points in January. Then in February I can complete the first step within minutes.
On the other hand a PlatinumStar can't do this because his points are reset to zero.
Is this correct?
Was wondering about this - how many VPPs does it take to become/maintain Gold every month ... is it 3000vpps or 2500vpps? Like at the beginning of the month is it ...

Current Silver Stars

3000vpps
  • 25 Bronze Steps
  • 25 Chrome Steps
  • *then* Step 1 of Silver

or

2500vpps
  • 25 Silver Steps

Becoming Silver, Starting from Scratch
3000vpps
  • 25 Bronze Steps
  • 25 Chrome Steps
  • then Step 1 of Silver

or

2500vpps
  • 25 Bronze Steps
  • 25 Chrome Steps
  • then *Step 6* of Silver (no Steps 1-5)

If it's 3000vpps to get to Gold, then would that mean this new promo would take a Silver Star 800vpps to make 3 steps of Silver? Or is it only 2500vpps and 300vpps to make 3 steps of Silver?

All the old vpp info for Gold seems to have been replaced by the new step system, and I can't remember how much it was any more ... thought it was 3k, but maybe it's 2.5k?

Each silver step takes 100 VPPs to complete. So 3 steps of silver would take 300VPPs and 10 steps would take 1000 VPPs. For goldstar, each step is 250 VPPs, so 10 steps would take 2500 VPPs at goldstar level.

The amount of VPPs required to reach each of the given statuses in a month are:

Silverstar: 500 VPPs/month
Goldstar: 2500 VPPs/month

^This is something that hasn't changed.

regarding this new promo, i have a doubt:

- Do you get starcoins every 3/10 steps, or is it a one time thing ??

Photobucket's been down all night, and was hoping it'd be back up and running by now, so could post the little passage from the PS steps page as confirmation that the vpps needed to achieve Gold star does appear to be 2500. Photobucket's still down though

https://www.pokerstars.com/vip/steps/

Anyways, couldn't help but notice how similar that the language you used was quite similar to the wording of a passage from the steps page - it kind of seemed like maybe you might have double-checked the info before posting, to make sure it was correct? Really appreciate you taking the time to confirm the vpps for Gold, especially if you went the extra mile to double-check it, thanks PocketDucks

So guess for this new promo, if we click the button at the beginning of the month, the three steps'll be the first three steps for whatever VPP level we're at, at least for Platinum and lower? So anyone who's Silver will have to earn 300vpps to earn the bonus (not 800vpps)?

PS. Looks like the big VPP tourneys are tomorrow - GL to all of us playing!

Totally not sure, but it sounded to me like just once? Not sure though!

Am I eligible for this promo playing hu or are we excluded again?

I see no reason why anyone would be excluded - seems you just need to complete 3 steps and then 10 steps on your current VIP level.

So yes, Silverstars will need 300 VPP and then 1000.

A bronze only needs 15 and 50 but the rewards are lower etc etc

Now that the Silverstar Monthly is a freeroll, there are 12K+ people registered Apparently, about half of those people were reluctant to spend FPPs on those tourneys last year, even though it was massively +EV.

What the heck is going on at Stars, why is there no late registration in the Sliverstar freeroll which used to be allowed there last year?

Ah, I forgot that you had posted about the change to 10 minutes earlier. Enjoy the 0.0064% boost in your freeroll equity

Besides, the levels are now 8-minute. Both changes no son buenos for a midroller like me who's looking for a fast series of flips for free $2, rather than a long grind which is less profitable / exciting per hour than the usual stakes.

I'll remain a Chromestar for now and see what news appear in March.

Not sure what you mean by this exactly. I ended up winning $9.60 in the silverstar freeroll but not sure where you got the 0.0064% from?

There was 1 player (me) less, so 15760 entrants instead of 15761.

Congrats on the cash!

what is the EV value of this monthly promo ?
***PokerStars Promotions Ideas/Suggestions/Opinions Thread*** Quote

The EV of the first part is $2.5 (iirc) for Chromestars, $6.8 for Silverstars, I didn't bother to calculate it for other VIP levels and didn't even read about the second half of the month.

The rakeback % given by it must be decreasing as the VIP level increases, as usual.

The goldstar monthly freeroll is decent value though, worth roughly $17 EV which is much better than the value of any of the lower status monthly freerolls. So I guess that's an exception to the rule.

I think HotCosby was talking about the 2M StarsCoins promo, though. That's what I was discussing.

Yea fair enough, although I think you miscalculated the EV. I think I remember the total expected value of the silverstar part of the promo (including both the 3 steps and the 10 steps rewards) was roughly $28, and for goldstar roughly $46. And that's just for the first half of the month.

Second half of the month is the milestone challenges, which I believe includes an easy challenge and a hard one. Total EV of each day's worth (for completing both challenges) is around $10 iirc. So comes to $150 EV if you complete all the challenges for the second half of the month. Admittedly, I have no idea how hard the challenges will be but it sounds promising.

The "Poker Cash Game Quest" challenges that have been running since the start of the year should be renamed "Boring Holdem Cash Game Quests" since EVERY "quest" is directed at Holdem players.

Pretty obvious to me it is going to be a crappy year for me promotion wise seeing as I rarely play Holdem anymore.

Thanks Stars.

Yeah and I'm kinda mad at myself now.

I was about 70% through Chromestar on the 27th so I decided to push through to Silverstar so I'd get a slightly higher rakeback.

Only now I realize that means the "3 VIP steps" is gonna be a lot tougher to complete, since I have a BR <$200 so I do not play 10NL or higher usually (which I *did* end up doing just at the end of January, partly to try some of those relatively easy to complete 3-step "Cash Game Quests"). Now I'm under-rolled and don't wanna go even more broke than I did during end of January (:sigh so gonna take forever to finish any step, let alone 3 of them in 2 weeks.

If I had looked ahead to the details of this "3 steps" promo I woulda stayed at Chromestar as I expect the payout will be more net $ than the "extra rakeback" I now earn...

Don't be too annoyed bud, in all likelihood you would only be missing out on 50 Stars Coin lol.

That's not the attitude I like to see. You've gotta really go for it and challenge yourself! In your case, this means going for all 10 steps. Mediocrity is not an option in poker. If you want to succeed in this tough game you gotta go that extra mile.
***PokerStars Promotions Ideas/Suggestions/Opinions Thread*** Quote

If the extra mile is less rewarding than the first one, it's sometimes not worth trying.

And the game isn't tough yet. At least for Eastern Europeans or Latin Americans or Asians who don't have to pay a ton for rent
