Hi All,

The Mobile Team would like to thank you for your overwhelmingly positive response to our first mobile poker game client release in the UK, and in Italy.

We have been reading all the comments in this thread (and others), and really appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative. While a lot of work went into creating the first release, there's still *A LOT* more work required to make our mobile gaming experience as good as we want it to be. We have big plans, and with your help we hope to realize them.

A lot of features you might know and love from your PS desktop gaming experience (i.e. note taking, more filters, other games, etc.) aren't available for mobile yet, and there could be many reasons for that. Assume for now that it's a matter of prioritizing development, as we thought that some of the new features (i.e. the smooth multi-tabling interface) were more important for now. Also, we just couldn't fit all the features from the desktop game client into the mobile client in time for our first release, or it might have been another year or more before players ever saw it! The desktop client evolved to where it is today over about 11 years, so we hope you can be patient as we catch up.

We think we made some reasonable decisions to get the first version out to players, and are excited about what's coming next. We have a long long long list of features to add, and you can expect to see gradual improvement along with our monthly releases.

In respect to technical questions (i.e. what devices can you run the games on), we recommend you continue emailing support@pokerstars.com with any questions you may have. They will provide their usual excellent level of service for mobile issues. We are also working to improve the F.A.Q. on the http://www.pokerstarsmobile.com site.

As for the release plan (what other countries will PokerStars Mobile be available in, and when), THANK YOU ALL for being so eager to play. I can't provide any details on that today, but you can be certain we'll let you know soon.

Please continue to share your thoughts and feedback, and other fun stories about where/when/how you played on mobile in a way that you never could on a desktop. Those stories help keep our developers warm and cheerful as they slave through the night to make better games.

Thanks,

Jeffrey

PS - I wanted to include a "Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such poker tournaments as the APPT and PCA..." reference, but does anyone in the UK watch the Simpsons anymore?

Is it possible to make the pokerstars mobile available everywhere for play money only so people can try it?

This part I don't understand. Why can't you (or someone else) just tell us.

If mobile for Canada (or other countries) is months or years away it should be pretty easy to let us know.

I'm not even all that stoked to play poker on my phone, but playing an MTT or a couple SNGs on a Tablet seems pretty cool.

As stated above in the thread, just getting the app on your phone is not going to make it run, as PS seems to be doing some sort of country/IP check on the account trying to login.

Incredible work, Stars. playing my first game now and I'm amazed how complete it is. You've obviously put in a lot of work before letting it out. That's the sign of a professional outfit. Working just fine on my tiny HTC Desire Z. Surprisingly readable.

The only big omission I noticed was not seeing villain's cards in a showdown. Maybe he mucked but need a way to see as per desktop version.

Other than that it's very minor stuff like keyboard shortcuts for those of us lucky enough to have a real keyboard, and alternative deck/table designs. But all in all, great job. Competitors, be ashamed.

This would be really useful.

I did try importing some hands I played on the app and got all errors, not sure what they are right now, I'll post back here.

...probably not a major issue but mentioning as i come accross them: please add rematch option for HU matches...

MORE IMPORTANT:

Please add the "register me to a similar tournament if full", it is highly anoying if you cannot get into a game because ppl on "real" computers can fill the games quicker than they refresh on the phone... maybe add more tables to the HU lobbies?

To any PokerStars representatives here:

"Due to local government regulations, access to your account on the PokerStars site is not permitted from the country you are currently visiting. We regret any inconvenience."

This is a nonsense. I'm from Spain, and I'm 100% sure there aren't any local regulations regarding what OS I should use to play poker. If I can legally play from my 2 year old, 7 inch 3G enabled Windows XP tablet, I for sure am legally able to play it on my Android or iOS tablet.

I understand that you must follow Apple regulations to put the software on the App Store, but for Android you're providing a direct download and Android Market regulations doesn't apply here.

So, please, make the Android client available to the rest of the countries where your .com portal is allowed. You've come with a great software, and many users like me would be very happy if we could benefit from it without any restriction.

Thanks for your great customer support,

David

couple of thoughts on that:

On the contrary, gaming regulations specify very specific requirements for clients, that their main lobby adheres to and their mobile one likely doesn't. i would think in Spain they have to be particularly careful, as they already have a kind of temporary license and are paying tax, and expect to be granted a full license in the next 2 months. They need to ensure anything they do now doesn't jeopardize that. Obviously there's nothing the gaming regs that explicitly permits or denies mobile gaming, but there's stuff about location of servers, responsible gaming etc, and the mobile client may not adhere to it.

PokerStars probably already has a pokerstars.es client that is ready to go, that follows all their restrictions to a T - on games, jumping through responsible gaming hoops, age verification etc. Maybe it's already been given the thumbs up (end of december they were probably thinking they were 2 days away from going live with it, as with Party). The mobile client probably has not be verified or checked or adhere's to their client restrictions.

but this close to regulation the last thing they want is for some bureaucrat to decide the mobile client isn't allowed. they don't want to launch it now only to pull it back in two months time.

another side note, they are really set on rolling out both android and ios clients together, which i think makes a lot of sense as it doesn't alienate a large part of their customer base and they can do wide advertising pushes that target anyone with a smartphone, rather thna just 'android-only customers'

[edit: just to make clear this is all idle speculation]

Hi Hood,

I think you're almost right on the above thoughts. I too suppose their efforts in Spain are towards the future .es platform, but knowing how things are done here, likely there will be additional delays, and we're still far from seeing the new regulations applied.

As long as you need to install their desktop client to open an account, age verification and responsible gaming topics are already acomplished.

The fact is that I'm able to play on some other online cardrooms from my iPad and Android tablets, but I can't play at Pokerstars, which is my main cardroom and, as usual, has the best software. And that's a shame

I'd be surprised if pokerstars.es wasn't dealing cards within the next 70 days
