To specify:

To turn off AVG you need to do more than close it, right-click-close just closes the control center, AVG is still running...

Double click AVG, click 'resident shield' and un-check 'turn on AVG resident shield protection', then try again.

HOWEVER (sorry, capitals, but important)

I would really suggest running the update as I mentioned in my previous post as that probably fixes the problem without having to disable AVG and without any further problems... Probably...

If anyone is interested in comparing antivirus products, you might find this site helpful:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

There is also a 2007 summary here:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/seite...ummary2007.pdf

My personal choice is Eset Smart Security, which I can't recommend highly enough.

OP will be very grateful for your answer; he's been waiting for it for almost 2 1/2 years. Now he can finally post again!

I don't have Stars on my new computer. If anybody has the time, I'm interested in what NoVirusThanks shows on the pokerstars.exe file. Upload it at http://scanner.novirusthanks.org and post the results here.

From experience, AVG and Norton have the most false positives.

I think the link from the poster who bumped the thread is dodgy, and that this was a malicious spam link to spread virus.

Kaspersky is available for download from http://www.kaspersky.com/ and shouldn't be downloaded from the link provided by that poster.

NoVirusThanks is practically the global safeguard for the Torrent community. It checks the file against more than a dozen antiviruses, and, if selected, uploads the results anonymously to virus tracking hubs.

For the sake of this thread, I'm downloading P* again and will post the results.
