I'm thinking of moving to Thailand next year and curious of the poker options.
Also, what are some key considerations? Rakeback? Ease of deposit/withdrawal? Have 5/10 PLO? Have many MTT?
Tldr...some more background...
I'm in my late 30s with a loving wife and a 20 months old. I work in IT and make a decent living in the bay area (San Francisco). My wife is Thai and a full time mom. We are currently renting and want a bigger place but cannot afford a house here since the only places that are "acceptable" to us are about $1M, which is double what we can get a mortgage for.
There is really no way out of this with a single income and living in the Bay area.
We are thinking of renting a nice apt downtown Bangkok for $1100 per month. Hire a full time nanny/assistant for maybe $600 per month. We can have another baby. Living the life. Eating good food.
And I play poker for a living. I only meed to make about $40k per year to afford this. If it does not work out, I can always move back since I can easily get a job being in IT.
YOLO right?
Am I missing anything?
(Not sure if this is the forum, if this fits better on another forum..)
Probably good to post in the Thailand thread of the travel forum. I don't know exactly what sites are good. Stars works here but that doesn't click the rakeback box. Last I heard party doesn't work here anymore but I could easily be wrong.
Bangkok also has a decent live game scene with a 15/30 PLO game running sometimes. Some of the guys in the Thailand thread could probably point you in the right direction.
It's also not out of the realm of possibilities to get a job in your field out here if you are patient. Lots of multi national corporations with lots of expats.
Is there remote work that you can do? Ideal situation is to get a remote gig and not rely on poker 100%
Mpn anon tables don't save hands so they are hud free. And if you feel comfortable playing without a hud against players using a hud then partys regular tables works allso. Kappa just in case.
Hey guys, I'm Tim, I'm in my 30's and live in Ab, and play approx. 50hrs in live poker a week.
Iv'e been really sick in the past few weeks, and have been off the tables for a bit. but have contemplating playing online poker. Iv'e never joined a site before as I enjoy studying the player's tells, and I assume it would be much harder online as all you get for information is betting patterns.
I have heard from some friends that there are special bonuses for playing online, but am ignorant to it all. Is there an article I can read somewhere to educate myself? Something such as rake back? or if you play enough you get special points that you can use to get into free events, or downloading special poker bots that help you during game play, etc.
If you guys have an article pinned somewhere can you please post it here so that I can understand online poker more, or if somebody can briefly describe the bonuses and then maybe decided which online site to download, and if all sites have these bonuses then maybe some tips on which online site to stay away from and which ones would be best to download.
Thanks again for any information that anybody can provide.
This is it, i am out. After 8 years of play on stars, the latest rakeback update killed it for me. It is crazy that now all you get from playing 1K hands of NL50 is a chest that gives you no more than a mere 2-3$. They say the changes will be good for recreationnal players but the old system actually benefited them more. I honestly can't see this being good for anybody other than the occasionnal lucky player that hits the 1 000 $ chests, and of course Pokerstars's wallet. I guess the only difference now is that casino and sports betting players do get a share of loss back now but this is pretty much it.
So i made my decision and decided to move to Partypoker. Traffic is great, they got Zoom as well, and i managed to find a better rakeback deal than on pokerstars.
So for thoses who actually plays on stars, do you plan to move? If so what site will you head for?
P.S. To moderators that sees my post, if you are to delete it again, at least tell me why, because i honestly can't see what's wrong ...

Been out of poker for a few years now, used to play deep stack cash tables on FTP and Stars. Anyone know if there is a site that offers it anymore? Or is it just 100bb buy-ins these days?
I'm back into poker and was looking for an online room. After some research, started with 888 and had a really bad experience, both on the software and customer service side. After some more research, started @WilliamHill and both the software and customer service are excellent. Software looks modern, works flawlessly, HM2 works like a charm. Customer service (used twice: once to understand why my deposit wasn't showing up, once to verify my ID) is responsive and polite.
