Please read the OP and all earlier warnings. Either we ban all mentions of transfers, period, or you must accept that they are entirely at your own risk; people are trying to scam you; you should obtain real life details, (name, address, phone number), about people in order to inform the police if you are scammed; exchange full details of the proposed transfer by e-mail; you should only transfer in amounts you are prepared to lose; google and Search the other person's name; ask here for references; a record of a few successful transfers can be a setup to scam on the next one; it seems likely but not definite that most scammers are newer posters; if the other guy won't transfer first, transfer in a number of small amounts; ask the other guy to sit at a table with his bankroll in front of him; etc; etc.

If you are in any doubt, or unwilling to risk losing the amount of money involved, don't offer to transfer first. Realise that you are likely to be scammed if you do.

Owing to a hacker using a long-time poster's 2+2 PM facility to arrange a scam, I now also suggest that before transferring first you find out the other party's real name (at the very least his first name) and e-mail the poker site's Support to say that you understand that they cannot confirm the other guy's name, but your intention is to transfer to Player ABC whose real name is XYZ, and instruct them that if this is not the case, you do not wish the transfer to proceed.

What I posted on a different forum about AP:

yes, i cannot see AP doing anything about it this time, as they did not about it last time (even after about 10 emails going back and forth between me and them). The most frustrating thing is trying to get them to call you about things like this, as they dont seem to.

They send an email at say 15.20, I have replied and sent by 15.22, and I wont get a reply to that until about 16.40, usually from a different person, wanting to know the full story.

Basically a waste of time trying to talk to AP

Doing it in AIM, or even PM, is part of the problem. I agree that a lot, if not most, of it could be done in PM: but for smart traders who don't know each other, AIM or ICQ should be a no-no. A big no-no. Because you don't know (and the audience can't see) what accounts are being used, and can't comment on it. There are far too many new traders getting scammed over in 'player to player' thread in the internet gambling section, and most of it involves AIM, and false names on AIM, and the same old recognizable scammer poker site accounts.

A couple of you big shooters apparently know each other: fine and dandy. But this guy didn't know me. If you're seriously suggesting that even a player who's comfortable with a grand here or there should be sending first after talking to some guy only on AIM, well, the theory needs a little work.

cheeer has been here for 2 years and made 1200 posts. if he did all that to steal your thousand he can have it, whether you each made 30 posts in this thread or not. you have been here a month so i suggest that you send first to him, then he completes the trade and writes in this thread that you seem to be reputable. it's really not that hard.

Yeti, I hold you, and TeddyFBI, and Cheer in very high regard, and recognize that your number of posts, and longevity, reflect a contribution to this forum, this community, that I can only aspire to.

But I fear that because of your contributions, and the people you are associated with, you are treated with appropriate respect, and trust, and that you to a large degree reciprocate, out of good manners, if nothing else. I respectfully suggest that in the 'money trading' arena, that might not be good enough, any more. I'm reminded of what was written on the far edge of those old maps' oceans, where you reach a place where man had never been. Or at least, had not returned from. "They be dragons there".

I will, indeed, be more mindful of taking up space here. The fact that the trade started to get away from us, and was later fixed, serves to confirm your point: 30 more messages. It wasn't all that necessary, and I'll fix that.

But I do suggest that the money traders here, whether or not in a class by themselves, pay attention to what's going on down in Internet Gambling-Person To Person Transfers. And over on FTP's forum (the Player Transaction section). Some well meaning, but not experienced enough, people are getting robbed often. That fact, combined with the demise of Neteller, is changing the game for the worse.
