Possibly scammed by "Hopeful Upcomer". I sent him $25 on FTP and we were talking on MSN - sunddenly he is "offline".

Does any one have any advice for me?

Give the guy the benifit of the doubt and give him some time to get back to you. If not then suck it up and be happy it was only $25.
Did you look him up did he have good feedback?

Sorry to hear that.

I hope you don't mind posting what you know; specifically his FTP name and MSN name. This won't go very far towards getting him to repay you, but it might save the next guy some grief.

i too was scammed by "Hopeful Upcomer" for only 10 dollars. i sent him 10 dollars but he never sent it to me. good thing im only out 10 dollars.

I banned Hopeful Upcomer (aka BallinPro) on July 15th.

Give the two sites involved the full details. They won't be able to help, but they may record that the other guy is an alleged scammer, and hopefully they will not allow further transfers into his account.

For others, apart from the suggestions in the OP and throughout this thread, my general advice would be that you don't send first to someone who registered in the last couple of weeks or so, and that you don't deal with someone who contacts you by PM when they haven't posted in this thread.

Please let us know this guy's playing names at the two sites.

First, search this forum for posts by and comments about the person that sent you the PM.

Second, get the screen name of the account that you will be transferring to. Do a similar search for that screen name.

Third, ask for references from your potential partner. Unless you find that his previous trading partners have posted here with the results of those trades, then PM each of the references for feedback.

Last, ask your potential partner if it's okay with him to post his user name here. We'll help with research.

Above all, trade small, and don't be rushed.

Be careful. It always starts out with someone with a few posts saying they've been scammed and demanding to be sent first...

Have them PM you on 2+2. Click on their name in the PM area to show their profile and number of posts and join date. Read the scammer's list. What other posters have already said... etc. ... etc.
