People who are saavy enough to sign up with rb are usually winning or BE players, so this will prob be good for the games and for the liquidity of the network. I say good move Merge.

Thanks for the post. This has been rumored for a while and its not a surprise to me.

I assume they are moving to a VIP system on most rooms?

Well, I think this may hurt their growth after June 1st. I guess Cake, Everleaf, and Yatahay(once they release new software) will benefit from this greatly.

I definitely agree this will help the liquidity of the Network.

My concern is that this is the first step in eliminating the RB program completely.

Seth,

This subject of this thread was posted elsewhere. Can you comment? If true, what will your policy be towards existing players?

I did not sign up through an affiliate for my RB...I went direct through RPM. Will RB be honored for those of us who have it already? If for some reason you decide to no longer provide RB directly, and I can't get it through an affiliate after 6/1, it leaves me out in the cold.

Can you clarify what is going on with rb?

sorry...didn't realize it was posted in here also....feel free to merge this with the other thread.

I read that post, I am telling friends, but will keep telling friends AFTER June 1st (I know some fish).

But, they better get the depositing in gear.

Wonder if it will be a demise in rakeback? They better lower the rake, if they eliminate rakeback. No one can play on their site indefinitely break even.

I wish sites would do away with rakeback, but then lower the rake accordingly to offset. They still make the same money, players still make the same, but there's less money-shuffling.

If it is the first step to ending RB I'm sure they will implement a Pokerstars type reward system, but for a lot of players that won't be sufficient.

Unfortunately, I would move Networks if they ever did do away completely with RB completely unless the rewards system was excellent(which would be completely pointless)

This doesn't concern me much. Maybe they are trying to model their business after PS and have only a rewards system? To be honest, we have to let the site make money or they won't be able to continue. 60-80% total rewards for everybody may just kill the site. I don't know why you guys worry about this so much. In the long run, as long as I get a little better than what FTP game us, I'm fine. I want a little better because the games are harder.

f I signed up for rakeback for Lock Poker, does this cover me for rakeback on all the other Merge sites?
05-04-2011 , 02:20 PM
In the short term it probably hurts their growth IF they decide to switch from a RB system to a stars like VIP system (isn't that kinda how it is with the VIP system now except not nearly as in depth?), but I have to imagine it will more than likely help the network in the long term. People don't get frustrated about finding out about RB after creating an account, and it limits on creating multiple accounts.
05-04-2011 , 02:28 PM
I wonder if they are purposely trying to stunt their growth. Why would they want to get huge after seeing what happened to stars and FT. And we've seen how much trouble their support and cashiers have had with the new influx.

I personally wouldnt mind having RB removed from my account. If you rake more than 2500 a month on carbon, not having rb on your account is a much better deal.

I agree that they cannot continue to give everybody 80+% plus pay the affiliates their fee's and be profitable. Still, these changes may not be good for the players if the rewards system is poor. Currently most skins have a VIP system, but not many players use it because its poor rewards overall, the exception is for Carbon Ether players.

I play on multiple Networks and like the freedom of not HAVING to play all my volume on one site just to get rewards back. If they move to a VIP system then I will have less freedom of where to play or I will lose a decent amount of RB/Rewards most likely.

Not sure how this will affect affiliates but a lot of the affiliates already took a huge hit with FT and AP/UB leaving. This could be very tough on some of the affiliates.

Sounds like a 100% ploy to get people to sign up now. Obviously this would be a rakeback affiliate making this post. It's quite clear that there are hundreds if not thousands of players on the fence about whether they want to sign up for merge, and this is a way to make them feel like they have no choice but to do it now because they don't want to lose out on rakeback.

there is no reason to give away 35% of your revenue if you dont have any competition.

As per Aff/Rakeback forum

Hey Disco, don't be such a cynic!

We post the news as we get it - simple as that.
And as a rakeback affiliate we tend to get this sort of stuff first hand. You aren't gonna get it from the Network or a Skin are you?

And if we don't post it, someone else will. So what does it matter. No one has to rush in to anything. There are 27 days left in May and plenty of other networks and rooms offering rakeback.

You take your time

Best wishes

You probably better off going to Carbon support for this answer.

Even if you're on the fence about whether you want to play online poker again before regulation if you're a US player, if you even have a .01% chance of playing, wouldn't you sign up for a RB account anyway? Seems like a stretch with your theory.

[x] merge realizes catering to american poker is coming to an end. Want to squeeze out as much profit as possible.
