Yeah, Stars wants that business of course. But it's not like going through May without one will result in their volume taking that much of a downturn.

I'm hoping they do one of course. But trying to justify it by saying, "Of course..they really don't have a choice or their whole site is screwed because they'll lose all these elite players" seems like quite a reach.

Remember, when they first started this thing last year they did not expect so many players to achieve it. And at the beginning of last year I think they had no idea that anywhere from 80-100 different players would be going after it and within range over a year later for pretty much the same program.
They didn't even know if it would be realistic for any NL cash-game player to achieve Elite when they first started it...much less envision the current scenario of the 24-tabling maniacs racking up the points as they do.

So 'losing' a percentage of their elite customers if they failed to do double-VPP promo? Meh. They never envisioned having that many elite-potential customers in the first place I suspect.

You must not know the dynamics of getting more tables going on a poker site. Even though the elite players are a small percentage of the player base they consist of way more of the action on the site. I think the latest number I saw on pokersitescout was that there was 10,000 real money players playing at any one time. Out of 10,000 I am sure there are 500 on pursuit of SN elite. That is 5% of their player base which is pretty significant. Not to mention all the other Supernova + players going for 500k or whatever. So these high volume players are at least 15-20% of their player base and without these players Stars would lose at least 30% of their yearly revenue.

Heres why. From what I have seen lately even though I rarely play on stars because of this reason. There are usually 3-6 supernovas on every table playing more than 6 hours per day. Those are the no limit game. In the limit games I see 7-9 regulars on every table playing many housrs per day. EVeryone playing a miinimum of 8 tables. Now what happens if these players stop playing, you not only lose their contribution to the rake but the rake of the whole table because you cant get players to play in a 10 player table with only 5 players. So that table breaks along with the other 8 tables they are on. So the site would lose significant amount of monies.

I want stars to coninute these promotions so all of the multitabling nits stay playing over there and leave the juicy games on other sites open. Even though I will always play during a DOUBLE VPP promotion.

How exactly are you sure of this when there are only 80 who are actually on pace according to Scottyy?

Do you realize that if there are 500 Elite chasers who are on at a random time then there must be 3x that or more in total that are chasing elite?
Unless I missed the part about the Elite-chasers actually be logged-on and playing poker 24/7. But if tthat were the case then many more would actually be 'on pace' Unless all these Elite chasers are playing 24/7 but are pursuing Elite by playing 2 tables of 2/4 limit at a time or something.

Man, the possibiltiies are endless.
Thanks for opening my mind to this.
1500 or more total players chasing Elite includng 500 or so who are on at any given time.
Who knew?!?!?!

If they all stopped playing then obviously there would be WAY fewer games.
I think the implication that they would lose 100% of their high-volume players if they refused to do any more double VPP promotions is horribly flawed.
They're just all treading-water until May, and then in May it doesn't come, and then suddenly hundreds of players all say "Screw this. I'm heading to Full tilt!!"
Doesn't seem likely.

They might lose a few who they would have kept tied into the program.
but obviously they wouldn't lose them all.
And equally obvious is that there aren't nearly as many players pursuing Elite as you seem to think.

Intercontinental Hotel Rio de Janeiro, Brazil May 3-5 $2,500 300
Ramada Plaza Herradura San José, Costa Rica May 22-24 $2,500+$200 30

For what it's worth, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that if the promo is in May that it will be after the 5th and before the 22nd, otherwise there will be a lot of pissed off people.

Yes that is true that they will not lose all high volume players. If they refused to do anymore Double VPP promotions, but it will not get them any new players and will decrease the current players no doubt, at least a few players will not play at stars if they knew they arent going to hit Elite.

Actually if they completely ended the whole program altogether I think they would bring back a lot of players, it might not increase the money they make but it would get them more players playing less amounts though.

For example - right now they have 10 players going for elite playing many tables for many hours essentially everyone knows that the games on stars are the worst of any site ever right now.

Example if they ended the promo- The would have 50 players playing only 1 or 2 tables for less hours per day.

I think example 1 makes stars more money so thats what they are going with. I have spoken with a lot of players that do play online but not enough to get to any of the milestone levels or even Supernova level. These kinds of players who are "good " players dont really like to ever play on stars at this time because of the structure of these deals cause the games to be really bad.

The deal itself is great IMO. A chance for a break even player to make 100k per year is incredible. A chance for .50 - 1.00 no limit players to make 100k is incredible.

Stars has found a great way to benefit themselves, and benefit the players at the same time with this promotion. Im sure all of the other sites wished they had come up with this idea first.

In my case if they dont do another DOUBLE VPP promotion I wont likely play there again this year. I have 42k VPP at this point and I earned about 38k of that on the one double VPP day they had before. So if they do another 10 days of that I am thinking I can do 50k per day for 500k which would then make me possibly chase the whole Elite thing. This is just one example, most likely the players who think they can get elite try and keep themselves on " pace " so the doulbe VPP day wont effect those players as much.

Re: Official 2008 Supernova Elite pursuit thread

nopair - what were you playing to get 38k on the previous double VPP day and that will get you 50k/day if they do it again?

george - good observation. Seems unlikely they would do it at the same time as either of their LAPT tourneys.
However, do note that when Scottyy gave that little hint they had yet to announce the LAPT at that time. So the fact that they now have that may have changed things. And a 'hint' from Scottyy doesn't necessarily mean it's all been finalized anyway.

Man, we sure have gotten carried away with attempted translations of just one freaking capitalized word like 'May'.
Mostly I think that speculation and guessing is pointless.
Obviously it might happen. And the idea that it might not take place at the same time as the LAPT events is valid. But otherwise if you aren't a Stars employee I doubt you're going to figure out when it's coming before the rest of us do. So stop wasting time trying to do that.

Would you rather this or another question about how much it's worth to make nova elite?

Meh...I like the updates better.
Both the ones from Scottyy as well as from folks like you.
Or even just some of the guys who chime-in to say, "Woot! Got to 200k!!"

Definitely will take ANYTHING instead of the same, tired shortstacking discussions though.
And I'm always up for further analysis of the sweet baller suites Stars is putting their Supernova WSOP'ers in this year.

As well, there hasn't been much discussion about my awesome motion to change the title from the ultra-boring 'SuperNova Elite' to the far superior 'SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!!'

Admit it George, if Stars officially called it SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!! instead you would have gotten your 1 millionth VPP 6 weeks ago.

Update: I haven't played in a week. March madness is not conducive to playing lots of poker.

And whatever I finish the year at is officially the SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!! level (actually scotty asked me a few weeks ago for an idea on what to call the 2 million level and this sounds as good as anything).

Re: Official 2008 Supernova Elite pursuit thread

George - If you use that title for 2 million then that would be awesome in it's own way but it also means that I would have no chance of being able to call myself SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!!
I already refer to the 1 million mark as that when mentioning to my GF that we would have to choose our trip/s if I made it, etc.
Also please note the official spelling SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!! does include 3 exclamations.

My friend at the PCA kept calling me Supernova Elitist because we got the hotel upgrade with the 2 HDTVs.

Also please note that I corrected the spelling of SuperDuperNovaEliteo!!! in my earlier post as to reflect the information from MicroBob. I apologize if there was any confusion due to the multiple spellings of said newfangled word.

Scotty, I figure I should ask here since you're in the know with FPP store stuff - do you know when Dan Harrington's new books will be in the store?
