Hi!

Do you use some kind of "standardized" player notes, maybe with shortcuts?

I am trying to get better at taking notes and thought of a question...

What are the most useful notes that you have taken on a player? Meaning, while playing, what specific notes have helped you the most during later hands against villains.

I am working to improve my note taking and any pointers on this would be appreciated, and who knows, this might turn into a decent thread with valuable info for many.

1.) M (for maniac). Let him bet your hand. Call wide.
2.) CS (for calling station). Bet your hand. Make wide value bets. Never bluff.

Nothing else is really close.

Most of my notes are situational, say i see a regular player at a few of my tables. Ill start taking notes on betting patterns. Describe certain hands, for example yesterday i noticed one of the regs i play with was at my SNG table. he got into a jackass hand with two other players where he committed all his chips with bottom pair no draw, since i see this guy enough ill note it.

Besides that stuff like maniac, calling station, weak on flop, doesnt bet river, slow plays... it goes on. If you notice it try to write a note. Don't do it to all players just the names\faces you see often.

Hope that helped..

I recently started playing poker again, and am making a more conscientious effort to improve my reads on other players. I was thinking it would be useful to have more acronyms to use in note taking about other players. I know many people use them, though I only make limited use of them. I don't have many, but I do find them useful. I was hoping to pick the brain of some of you people.

CC = cold caller
HBL = high blind limper (useful for tourney players -- idea from Moshman)
OAR = overactive ****** -- a dumb player who gets involved in too many pots
TAG and LAG (obviously)
TP = tight-passive
Loop = loose-passive

Pathetic huh? That's all I've got.

What acronyms do you use to abbreviate other players' tendencies?

I think my notes would look like an utter mess written by a psychotic person for someone else but me. It helps me remember specific hands we have played. My memory takes it from there and i use a hud to differ tags from lags.

One funny thing is that I write my notes in english although my native tongue is swedish.

I nearly only rely to my HUD and the few notes I take are to describe a specific move from Vilain or to help me remember that I 3beted him a lot and that he might adapt.

I also use basic color code. Red for regs, green for fishes.. to help me table selecting.

Lol, I also take notes in english tho I'm brazilian. Also, if the english classes were any good, I think ur supposed to say "language" instead of "tongue".

Am I the only one who gets pissed enought at somebody to put "GIVE THIS IDIOT A BEAT" in the notes?

Sounds like good advice. I'm learning too and could use this. Maybe I'll add a star next to every time it applies (up to three) or lose one every time I'm wrong, just to be sure it wasn't a mood the player was in.

Multi-tables, doesn't pay attention, plays slow and turns every SNG into push/shove

What notes do you like to take on your opponent? Here are a few I use.

ol hopeless hand (3382) (this is fairly self explanatory, but ol = open limp and then 3382 are the ranks of the 4 card hand in omaha)
ol (open limp)
bol (button open limp)
maniac
lp (loose passive)

how about you, what are some of your favourite notes?

I think it's a bit of a redundant effort to keep writing to categorize players manually. When playing someone, you can always look at their stats in the HUD and mentally categorize them. Maybe one can simply use labels.

In the notes themselves, there are just details (cards and actions) of hands they played that might elucidate their tendencies at a later time.

@OditeRussia: how do you tell someone is a girl?
