When I need to buy another chair, it'll be this same one again.

The Aeron is close to 1K but it's worth it imo.

Lots of people like the Humanscale Freedom too. Also close to 1K I think.

Don't know how close to 1K you are willing to go. Maybe others will have cheaper alternatives they can recommend, but the Aeron and the Freedom seem to be the two most popular options among 2+2ers.

i obsessed over my office chair purchase for about six months, my favorites were:

1. steelcase think
2. herman miller mirra
3. humanscale liberty
4. herman miller aeron
5. humanscale freedom
6. steelcase leap

ended up buying the think chair because it looked the best, allowed me to recline easily (my default position) and came with an armless option (allows me to play guitar more easily). came out to about $650.

whatever you do, spend the $ on a good chair, it's worth it, you spend a ton of time there.

i bought a raynor ergohuman chair. it has alot of different adjustments and has really helped my lower back. It cost $480, while a standard aeron chair is like 650. I would much rather have this chair over an aeron.

I ran an ergonomics store for a long time, and currently use a Mirra chair at my new job and I would never buy the Mirra. Not worth the coin at all, it has a very cheap plastic feel about it and the lumbar support is in a very strange position.

I can recommend the Aeron however it is very expensive. I cannot comment on the humanscale or steelcase chairs as I have never used these, however, I would strongly recommend you go to some shops and sit on what it is you are interested in. It really is one of those things you need to try before you buy...

A chair is just a chair, why spend so much?
Isn't like $50 enough?

If you're sitting in a chair for 8+ hours a day, it pays to have a decent one. It can make the difference between comfortable the whole time or having to shorten your sessions.

I was thinking of buying a 2nd monitor (24"+) to go with my laptop, but this thread made me realize that a great chair might be a better investment.

No. If I had to use a $50 chair instead of my Aeron, I wouldn't play anywhere near as much. My Aeron has paid for itself many times over.

Yep. Agree here. I was having a lot of back pain until I got this. I went and sat in all of them and I am really happy with this. I don't think the freedom or aeron are any better and the ergohuman is cheaper.

I don't know the US market, but my last three chairs were a) second hand from an office, great till it broke, b) $400 "director'¨s chair" from Office world, never very comfortable and broke in less than two years, c) another second hand office chair, still going strong after a year.

Point being that many offices redecorate every 5 years, which may mean a colour change, which may mean new furniture all round. My current one is like a deluxe typists chair, not much to look at but you can pretty much live in it. Brand new it was probably $500+, for me - free!

If I had to go brand new, I'd get this one

I just got this chair a couple weeks ago and I love it. One of the best purchases I have made in a while. It is incredibly comfortable and was very easy to put together.

From what I understand Aeron's are muchos deneiro, I went to an Officemax and sat in a bunch of chairs and ended up with an awesome chair that looks a rediculously close to a lot of $500+ chairs that look a lot like many 2er's that have a lot of adjustments just like mine. I bought mine for $120 or so, I luuuuuvvvv it.

I put off forever buying an Aeron because I didn't want to spend that kind of money on a desk chair. I finally caved in and got one a month or two ago, and now, if it broke, I'd pay double for a replacement if I had too, except it has some kind of ridiculous warranty of which I can't remember the details.

I bought an Aeron used off Ebay paid like $400 for it.

I don't like it very much to be honest, I slouch in it constantly.

Also whatever you get go for a highback, headrest would be nice.
