Tried to log into moneybookers today, couldn't. Had to reset pwd. Logged in, $700 gone, plus three quick $1500 in/outs since my last login that weren't me.

I don't generally keep money on moneybookers because of threads like this, but $700 isn't going to break me or anything.

fwiw, the outgoing transactions (4 in total, including the $700 which went out 12 hours after it came in from FT) went to usd@cqrpayments.com
the incoming transactions, which went staight back out, were from stian0084@hotmail.com

haven't heard back from moneybookers yet, but I'm not really hopeful.
Changed all my pwds via my laptop, just really looking for advice here on any decent software to find/remove any and all spyware.
thx

Spybot search and destroy for spyware. Zonealarm or Norton for antivirus. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is also good for trojans and backdoor rootkits.

I wouldn't totally jump to the conclusion that there is something on your computer. It could have just been a bot attempting to get in over and over and eventually guessed it.

You could ask them to see what IP was logged when they made the transactions? At least it would show it wasn't you(if you log in from the same place all the time) and maybe give you an idea of who was able to get it.

Good idea changing all PWs though.

strange thing when I think about it: a couple days after I got the moneybookers withdrawl from FT, the e-mail from moneybookers alerting me about it vanished from my hotmail. I never delete important messages on purpose. At the time I figured I must have deleted it accidentally, but now I'm guessing that whoever it was was in my hotmail too.

Maybe I should switch my poker related stuff to my g-mail?

Your last post is no surprise. Almost every time we have one of these "My Site X account was hacked", it turns out that it was their email that was hacked.

Does no one have non-webmail email accounts any more? That's what I'd suggest.

You're best to be looking to Computer Technical Help for advice on that.

But if it's likely that your email account was hacked (and it sounds like it is), you should be doing some serious thinking about what else could have been compromised as a result.

Yeah, all my banking, poker etc is linked to that accnt.

Apart from changing relevent passwords, any other steps I should take?

Also, any clue how my hotmail might have been hacked barring spyware?

I think you'd want to change your email account associated with any of those accounts, as many of them will allow you to email your login details and/or a new password.

As for how your Hotmail account could have been hacked, I believe there are a number of ways. But I'm not an expert on this; perhaps others in Computer Technical Help could be of more assistance.

Used to use Spybot Search and destroy - they have recently become not so reliable.

Using hints from the past in Computer Technical help, and what I have knowledge of:

All webmail accounts are Yahoo - no hotmail, no gmail (too popular hack).

Aside from Poker Sites, blogs and Poker related memberships - all my other email (including my dormant UB account), is set to my ISP. I use thunderbird, set to text only.

All Ebay and Paypal emails go to the multiple email addresses in my ISP accounts - and are set to text only (since many folks use spamming, hijacks with html - text only saves you a world of hurt).

Yahoo email is set up to answer secret questions before you can reset password. I have also blocked images in webmail.

I use firefox with no script. IE is not allowed in my firewall, and when needed, I allow access once (see firewall info below).

I previously had Mcafee free, but only used the Firewall. McAfee and Norton both are infamous for not being that great with trojan detection and AV software.

I bought a discounted subscription (9.99 for the full program) to McAfee for a year. This was just for the firewall (but I can add on more if needed, so handy). I have it set to standard, not allowing any pings, and all ports (including Common Windows ports and UPNP ports) are blocked. When running Windows Update - I set it to manual service, and allow the Common Window ports, then uncheck when done. I am also behind a linksys router, though no additional software added. The router is wired (best solution admitted by my ISP), and the password is changed from the default.

I was using a paid subscription (about to run out on July 1st) of Avast AV Pro. I don't use Windows security (Defender nor firewall), and I don't combine the firewall with AV if I can help it. Avast on my old 2k computer (the free version), picked up a couple of trojans real quick - before I discovered noscript. I was very impressed. If I can keep the Avast Pro after July 1st as free version, may. Otherwise, I will go with Avast 5 free or pro (pro has a sandbox in it).

I've downloaded Malware Bytes for manual scanning. My computer was clean (mainly due to firefox with no script, and selective allowance of sites - so I don't see a lot of videos, pdf files, etc).

If you are looking for a free firewall - go with Commodo or Zone Alarm. I personally think (and Lirva will jump all over me) - the Commodo over does it. If you are behind a router, Zone Alarm should do the trick.

About 3 years ago I stupidly clicked on a link in a party poker table chat box, within 48 hours I was having all sorts of strange things going on, by the time I realised that my PC was compromised I already had some e-wallet and poker account balances stolen. It was a valuable lesson and one that changed the way I view internet/online activity.

Btw, I did my best to trace this $^*&#$ and also did my best to have funds returned, but it's virtually impossible to unwind this kind of activity once it has taken place.

There's not much moneybookers can do. A few years back I got several thousand stolen via Click2pay. Someone emptied my bank card that was linked to the service (Moneybookers offers similar services).

I discovered that funds were missing some 20min after that happened and called the customer service. They told me in a very polite manner that it's my own fault and there's nothing I can do about it. They also mentioned that the only way to make them get their asses off their chairs would be contacting police, but even then I would probably not get my money back. I filled some forms at my bank and got the money back in half a year.

Hope you can solve it somehow, but I wouldn't be too optimistic about Moneybookers helping in any way. Luckily, it was $700 and not more.

I'm using this 2 software Imo the best of their kind.

ESET Smart Security, one of the best firewall(manual, interactive, auto mode) with A-V and it's lightweight and very effective software.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

With this you will have a nice protection against a trojan/keylogger on your PC so they cant hack any of your online accounts.

P.S check for rootkit too with Gmer(free) in case Malwarebytes Anti-Malware miss something.

There's a good chance someone simply hacked his email address. You sign up at some shady poker forum, the owner has your email address and other data, then one day boom - your money is gone. Happens all the time.

Moneybookers says they'll ship me a security token even though I'm not a VIP, which is OK.
I'm pretty glad I never connected my bank card/credit cards to moneybookers though.

They did also provide me with the IPs from which my accnt was accessed.
Anything I can do with that?

Kenji there are two current threads, one started by me and one by 888prof1234. We both got hacked. It might we worth looking at the threads and posting in them to see of there are any similarities between the cases.
