I would guess 95% of us do that routinely anyway.

Is this kind of volatility normal for bitcoin within the span of weeks?

You can go to finance.google.com and type in btc and see the 5 year, 1 year, 6 month, 3 month, 1 month price history.

Not to be a nit but this conversation really belongs in the "Investment" forum. On a personal level I don't see much point in worrying about its fluctuations or rushing to convert it. All poker cashouts are now in btc so if you play winning poker you're going to be handling it a lot and from an EV standpoint these things come out in the wash (or close to it) eventually. If you believe in the efficient market theory, you aren't losing money by holding it. If you don't, then get it onto poker sites or into your bank ASAP. But if you play a lot of poker, fretting about it is kind of pointless when there aren't other wdraw/deposit options available.

Excellent post, thank you for this.

On another note, I have an existing NY account on Carbon that I haven't touched in a while, do they still accept deposits from NY players? I'm not totally sure, but I thought I heard something before about Carbon not accepting deposits from NY players anymore.

Reposting part of an email from the Merge discussion thread:

please understand that the fees are imposed by BitCoin and not by us, that's the reason for this denial.

Pretty interesting that they're willing to jump down the wormhole of outright lying. They should have just stuck to the btc fees being due to internal administrative stuff. Seems like the path of least resistance.

For the last max withdrawal I did earlier this month, it was included in a batch transaction with 23 total withdrawals. They were all essentially for the max of $5000. Six of the withdrawals were likely done by people withdrawing for the first time this year because they received the full $5000. The other 17 were hit by the 5% fee which amounts to roughly $4,250 in fees paid to merge. For the entire transaction, Merge paid 0.001928 BTC in fees which at the time was worth $2.44.

The only argument Merge could make is that a 3rd party processor is imposing the fees and they're just passing them onto us, but that doesn't seem reasonable considering no other site has a similar policy for bitcoin withdrawals.

Saying that the fees are "imposed by BitCoin" is a joke.

Hi, have a couple questions regarding bitcoin withdrawal. I have some money on Carbon that I would like to withdrawal and put on ACR since the traffic on Carbon is so low. I deposited on Carbon with Coinbase and was going to request a bitcoin withdrawal but someone on Twitch told me Coinbase will freeze it unless I use blockchain? Is this true? I dont even know what blockchain is. And I don't really understand the Wallet concept lol. All the videos on youtube explain depositing but cant find one that explains withdrawaling. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Since Coinbase is a financial exchange regulated by U.S. banking laws, a personal wallet is used to buffer transfers to/from gambling sites. Blockchain is such a wallet. It is totally under your control. Takes only a few moments to create one. If Coinbase determines you are moving funds to/from gambling sites, your account is subject to closure. You would be allowed to transfer your funds out.

To get funds to another site go site->blockchain->site. No need for coinbase. See EndTheFed's posts in Bovada/Ignition payout thread. Worth it's weight in gold.

So worst comes to worst, they wouldnt just take my money right? So I have to create a blockchain wallet, request a withdrawal from Carbon and receive it there, then send it to Coinbase. Then deposit from there to Acr?

Don't send it to Coinbase if you're just gonna deposit it onto another poker site. Deposit from your wallet.

I c. the whole wallet thing confuses me lol. I thought my wallet was on coinbase. So i should create a wallet on blockchain and receive it from carbon there then send it to Acr.

A 'wallet' on Coinbase is not the same as a traditional bitcoin wallet. On Coinbase, your wallet is either partly, or fully, controlled by them which means you need to follow their rules. They can block your account and although it's unlikely that they confiscate your funds, it could be a hassle to work out.

Having your own dedicated bitcoin wallet gives you full control over your private keys and using it as an intermediary between a poker site and Coinbase (or any other exchange) allows you to avoid having a direct link from a gambling site.

Been waiting since the 28th for a btc withdrawal. Emailed them 3 times yesterday without a single response. Today I get an email saying it takes 24-96 hours for a btc withdrawal. And that my withdrawal is in the queue. So much for fast and easy withdrawals. Worst customer support I have ever come across.

The 24-96 hours is stated on the withdrawal page. Should be processed Monday. Tuesday at the latest.
