and this thread. very nice.
john voight- its power source is self contained/sealed and I've read somewhere it has a life of around 3 years. it just runs out afaik and battery can't be replaced.
if you lose it I assume you can order a new one at the same cost.
However they send you a series of one time passwords with it in case of temporary misplacing. my sheet had 25. that allows you to bypass not having the token on hand if you want to login.
I've tried the OTP and they are easy to use. what I haven't tried is undoing the token and going back to the other PIN inside the OTP. I assume it works while logged in.
so if you lose the token temporarily - you can still log in with passwords they send you. If you lose it permanently I'm pretty sure you can use a one time password to login and undo the token setting and go back to regular login/PIN login while you decide what to do for replacement.
There's also an option that allows to login for things you are already registered for only without the token. I haven't explored that yet- but that feature is what leads me to think some of the interactions I've had with the software since using the token are related specifically to the token login settings.
I'm still not sure and am waiting for a disconnect while playing to recreate the scenarios I've experienced.
