Ok guys, here goes. I deposited 2checks Friday. There is a hold/pending on the money However the funds were available on Saturday. I called my cousin who is a banker at the branch and he urged me to withdraw the money right away before it can perhaps get reversed, now isn't that totally ******ed??
He told me the bank can't do anything once they make the funds available, etc.. and convinced me to withdraw it.
Anywyaz, I called customer service and they said to wait till tomorrow to know if the holds clear.

if u withdrew the money -- and the check is going to bounce -- it's still gonna bounce -- you're simply going to owe the bank money.

I requested a check from FT last week which I'm not necessarily expecting to ever receive. If I do receive it, I will deposit it into savings and let it sit there for probably a month before I do anything with that money. Even then, I'd be shocked if it actually cleared.

There's a list of accounts seized at this link starting at page 70. If the account your check was drawn on is not listed, it's probably worth a shot to deposit it, with the understanding that it might bounce anyway and to wait 3-4 weeks to spend the money.

I see the list of accounts and they all say at the end, "and all funds traceable thereto." So if we've received funds from any of those accounts, is the money going to be taken away from us?

Maybe. Expect the feds to continue to look for accounts associated with Tilt and seize them. My best guess is that if the account on your check isn't listed, the Feds haven't found it yet. Also, I would say that if you deposited your check more than a month ago, you are reasonably safe.

also for the banks listed on the indictment. those banks are the main banks. and the banks listed on the checks are the subsidiary accounts of the listed banks. so if your account is not in that indictment , its worth a shot.

So I got a check a week or two ago that I never got around to depositing. Obviously, Friday's news made me very nervous about the check's worth.

I took the check to a bank today since the check originated from it. I asked them if this check was still valid. After 30 seconds they confirmed that the check was still good.

They cashed the check for me for a $7 fee, gave me cash on the spot, which I promptly deposited into my personal checking account.

Very relieved.

That somehow gives me some hope that my check clears despite it being from a different bank. (Oh and I think people here get angry when you name a bank so you should probably edit it. Not such a bad idea to not name banks in case some Fed decides to look up these forums or something, paranoid I know but still maybe).

I requested a check on 4/2 and it just got here today (4/18)

Do you guys think I should...

a) Deposit it and hope it clears
b) Take it to one of those check cashing places

Idk how many times it has been said in this thread. Don't go to a check cashing place, esp. now. If you go to a check cashing place and the check bounces, they will come after you for more than just the standard fee afaik. Deposit it in your bank through an ATM and if it clears then it clears. If it bounces, you're only out whatever your bank's fee is.

put two checks in the bank today for 2k each. Both from same company name. Hopefully they clear.

I did take a check for 2k drafted off local branch on Saturday and they cashed it for me for 6.00 fee.

I withdrew two checks from Full Tilt Poker 3/31 and 4/4. I received them today, 4/18, 3 days after Full Tilt was shut down. Do you think I can/should deposit them? Will they bounce? Can I get in any trouble?

Anyone from EU cashed out by check before? How long does it take to get there / clear? No idea about checks since we don't use them... but it's my only option right now.

I know from the Western Union scams that even if the bank clears your check, and later finds that money wasn't actually available form the issuer's account, they're just going to take it back from your account. So it's possible 2-3 months down the line, you'll just wake up with the difference having been subtracted.

I'm not sure what happens if you withdraw and close your account, but I would imagine if it's a sizable sum they'll send collections after you.

so i deposited today and will update. i asked the teller if there is a way to know if the check would bounce or not, she said there is no way of knowing that. so i took a risk and just let her deposit it.

The 2k check I deposited on Friday is now part of my available balance. I've been expecting the worst so this surprised me. Hopefully it stays.
