Re: Friday Action Plan: Mitt Romney says he opposes online poker. Let's tell him what we think!

Marco from QJs wrote up a nice story on Mitt Romney's opposition, at http://www.quadjacks.com/2012/02/03/...o-hypocritical

Quote:
Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney says he is against online gaming. This position is not only wrong for online poker, but wrong for Mitt Romney and the United States.

Mitt Romney has stated his position on online gambling, after promising back in October that he would do so before the Nevada caucus this Saturday.....

Re: Friday Action Plan: Mitt Romney says he opposes online poker. Let's tell him what we think!

The president has little control over online gaming laws. He is not going to stick his neck out there and become an advocate for online gaming, too much backlash and political liability.

The best hope is to get congressman and senators to support poker friendly bills. Even if they have to justify it as a way to drum up tax revenue for stretched government budgets, whatever works.

Some of ron pauls ideas I love, but because of voting laws in the US and the first-past-the-post voting system, ron paul and any 3rd party cadidate doesn't have a chance to get elected. sad but true.

Write letters to congress.

Re: Saturday Action Plan: Let's tell the Payroll Tax Congressional Committee to include poker

Saturday, February 4, 2012

For today, let's start telling the Payroll Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance, and Medicare Physicians Payment Fix Conference Committee to look at online poker as a possible revenue source.

The committee needs to resolve this by the end of February, so the timing is perfect for us. They need funding, which also works for us. And, if they don't act, we still benefit by the effort itself, as the members of the conference committee are leaders in the House and Senate!

These take just a couple of minutes each, so thanks for participating:
  1. Let's send the Conference Committee members + Sen. Reid & Sen. McConnell tweets urging inclusion of federal online poker legislation: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
  2. Let's post and like pro-poker comments on the Facebook walls of Conference Committee members Sen. Baucus and Sen. Crapo HERE and HERE.
  3. Let's tell Mitt Romney what we think of his anti-poker statements (read more here) on his Facebook wall HERE.
  4. Let's send a NEW prefilled tweet promoting today's action plan HERE.
Please reply in this thread with "tweeted", "done", etc. to encourage others to participate. The past 144 actions have generated triple-digit participation, so let's keep it growing. Thanks!

Payroll Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance, and Medicare Physicians Payment Fix Conference Committee Members:
  • Senate Republicans: Jon Kyl, Mike Crapo, and John Barrasso
  • Senate Democrats: Max Baucus, Ben Cardin, Jack Reed, and Bob Casey
  • House Republicans: Dave Camp, Fred Upton, Kevin Brady, Greg Walden, Tom Price, Thomas Reed, Renee Ellmers, and Nan Hayworth
  • House Democrats: Sander Levin, Xavier Becerra, Chris Van Hollen, Henry Waxman, and Allyson Schwartz

@harryreid and @SenatorReid are both good. We should send tweets to both. HERE is one to @SenatorReid that I just now added to the action plan.

Let's continue telling the Payroll Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance, and Medicare Physicians Payment Fix Conference Committee to include online poker in their discussions. The committee needs to resolve this matter by the end of February, so the timing is perfect for us.

Re: Sunday Action Plan: Let's tell the Payroll Tax Congressional Committee to include online po

The Monday action plan will include:
  • Let's post and like pro-poker comments on the Facebook walls of Sen. Ayotte, Sen. Begich, Sen. Bennet, Sen. Bingaman, and Sen. Blumenthal: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE (I'll update this just prior to posting for walls where we'll be posting comments to existing posts.)
There are several senators whom we've reached via Twitter but not (yet) via a formal Facebook action. I think we can gain by picking them up over the next few weeks.
