Friday Action Plan: Let's keep taking action in response to proposals for UIGEA 2!
Hi everyone! I hope everyone will consider participating in this daily poker action plan each day, as it is an easy way for us to magnify our individual voices. These items take just a few minutes to complete, so we can all do these quite quickly and painlessly. Thanks!
======================================
Friday, May 25, 2012
With the groups that pushed for UIGEA seeking a federal ban on online poker and other online gaming (their letter to Congress is HERE), we ALL need to stand up and tell our lawmakers that we want them to support poker. Our opponents are pressing Congress for action, so our elected representatives need our letters in front of them:
- Let's send the Senate Indian Affairs Committee members these tweets: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
- Let's post and like pro-poker comments to the House Commerce Committee Facebook wall HERE.
- Let's keep making and liking pro-poker posts on the Facebook walls of Sen. Reid HERE, Rep. Boehner HERE, and Rep. Cantor HERE. There are new posts since yesterday's action.
Please reply in this thread with "tweeted", "done", etc. to encourage others. Thanks for participating!

How about your board members get us back our FTP money?
Until that happens, it shows how weak and flaccid the PPA is.

First of all, this isn't a PPA action. It's one I'm putting together personally, based on what I'm hearing from the 2+2 posting community. Secondly, PPA has publicly called for FTP, AB and UB repay us our money. I'm glad we did.

Ferguson and Lederer are no longer on the board. I hope everyone helps, poker players are doing a great job with the facebook walls.

I just posted this:

Many other poker players are ensuring that they are being heard as well. We care, and we vote.

I hope we'll all post on these Facebook walls to let our lawmakers know where we stand. If you like the post I made, please "like" it at http://www.facebook.com/energyandcom...50261688056311. Thanks!

Tomorrow's action plan will be to start contacting mainstream media to ask them to cover this issue in more depth.

Congrats on being part of an impotent organization. Nice cash grab from the poker sites that supported this movement.

First of all, PPA isn't a "they"...it's a "we". It's our shared fight, and we have a very tough fight on our hands.
Consider where we started. UIGEA passed the House in 2006 by a vote of 317-93, and it was a free standing bill at that time (it was HR 4411). Politicians openly and proudly opposed us, and they only do that when they think there is ZERO downside to doing so. Anti-online poker folks did a good job of building a coalition against us. The GOP even put a plank in its platform advocating a ban on online gaming.
With this starting point, it was not reasonable to think poker players could turn this around overnight. Rather, we started a process by which we could build support for our position, and that was better than doing nothing (in other words, initiating the fight was the maximum EV option of the choices available to us).
So, what's happened over the past three years. Well, Congress had heard from us loud and clear. We poker players are on offense in Congress, which is our best defense. No bills have been proposed against us since 2006, after years of anti-poker bills (see http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/15...ker-rights-ppa). To the contrary -- all the bills now proposed are pro-poker.
On the media front, coverage used to be completely against us. We now get our opinion mentioned in pretty much every article now. I write a regular column for BigGovernment.com myself, at http://biggovernment.com/author/rmuny.
So, if you think PPA could use a hand, wouldn't it make sense to step up and help fight back?

Mighty Maron, if it is impotent then we poker players are the ones to blame. I have followed the PPA closely since the Bolcarek era and they have made tremendous strides. The fraction of poker players who do care enough to call our Congressmen do a pretty good job, but if we werent so lazy as a group, we would be a huge force on the hill.
The PPA isnt the only organization out there, so if you do care for your rights I suggest finding one or creating your own.

Wow, if people actually do this it could be very effective. It's one of those things, like voting, where it starts with you, each and every one of us.
Glad this seems to be getting out in the forums now. I think I'll follow just for that.
Rich, I'm now subscribed to this by posting, is there a way I could now be "tied" into each new plan? I think it would be a great reminder for me. I check my email each day when I get up so this would be included.
What I'm looking for is a way to be reminded what each day's action call is. I suppose I could go to PL and look, but for me it's not the same as actually getting an email reminder.
I'll think about this a bit more and see if there's a way. You could make a "ghost" post to send out an email notification that the thread was bumped (but just delete the post) if the day's plan hadn't changed from the previous day. IDK, I'll think about it. Maybe a twitter account?

You could change your subscription setting to include an email notification. I do post the day's action item within the thread, so it will come via email.
