I was surprised by their blunt response and lack of acknowledgement. Surely a better solution would have been to comment within the thread and reassure players and then close said thread. Avoiding the issue is only inviting the 'unnecessary speculation' they are trying to avoid.

Presumably they are in the process of contacting Ulliott to retract / explain his comments and possibly seeking legal advice.

Regardless, I am not concerned given the brand name alone (and the fact that I only have a couple of quid on there anyway). I am more concerned from a customer service viewpoint given that the tweet is out there in the public domain for all to see.

I didn't know this - maybe the bad news is it is doing better then his site and as he has a site of his own he obv. won't be playing there

That been said very easy for Sky Poker to just give out a standard player funds are safe spiel and lock thread.

So you think that Fox News should be regulated by the Alderney Gaming Commission? Or the Sun newspaper?

Large companies will always ensure that a unit affected by regulation or particular laws is as small as possible.

There could be the side-effect of reducing liability but it isn't the primary reason.

I had never heard of devilfishpoker either. I only located it when I googled devilfish to see when the tweet was originally posted. Then I saw the online gambling site, it takes sports betting also.

I agree sky should just ask devil to tweet proof or an apology. I am guessing by tomorrow they will realize that's the logical move

I was merely stating that people's assumption that SkyPoker (player's funds) would be safe because of BskyB and the Sun and SkyTV etc might not be the safest assumption.

It has nothing to do with 'protecting' a friend, he hasn't alleged anything beyond a very vague tweet with zero details.

It would be a horrible PR blunder for Sky Poker to respond to a spurious accusation when no accusation has actually been made. If any information was brought forward, then absolutely they should respond/deny/refute it. But right now there's nothing to even refute. Again, i stress that given that one tweet, no accusation has been made so there is nothing to respond to.

There's no reason whatsoever that the tweet means that Sky Poker are in financial trouble or going under. It's likely he heard a friend got his account blocked or banned or something, or perhaps a dispute over a bonus or promotion, and he's taken to twitter to 'out' them.

The unabashed majority of Twitter posts have much more to do with their author than the subject matter in question, regardless of what the author would have you think. It's a mistake to forget that the underlying motivational force of Twitter is self-promotion and self-aggrandizement.

Quote:
@devilfish2011 David Ulliott ‏
HAVE HEARD BAD NEWS RE SKY POKER WONT BE PLAYING ON THERE !! RT TY
The tweet in question, as with most other tweets, is purely narcissistic and has no other redeeming quality. Its sole purpose is to conjure notoriety for its author. It's a small voice whose insecurity compels him to yell, "Look at me, I know something you don't know, I know something you don't know!"

Yes, it's possible that this tweet is just the tip of a deep, dark, evil conspiratorial iceberg. But considering the lack of given information and the shameless self-promotion history of the author, I'm inclined to wait for further context.

And besides, if he was "protecting a friend", don't you think it more prudent to simply refrain from posting baseless, unevidenced rumor that could portend his friend's termination or worse, while at the same time offering no help or information to the general public whatsoever?

No, I consider it much more likely that the motive behind the tweet was that unshakeable feeling of insecurity or insignificance on the part of the poor author. Poor guy, the world just isn't giving him the recognition he deserves. Now at least everyone knows that HE won't be playing there any longer, and how much better off we all are with that knowledge.

On one hand, Devilfish has to be one of the oldest divas on the tournament circuit. He will whine and cry worse than Helmuth when he thinks he has been wronged, and retaliate by trying to hurt you when he doesn't get his way.

otoh, Sky's response and handling of this has been less than reassuring, so there might be something to it.

Heh, well done. Difference though, is Apple does not have a bunch of player funds tied up.

If you are trying to make the most absurd post ITT you need to go much much further. SS post about Glen Beck and the rape rumor is going to be tough to top.

Whether they do or not is irrelevant, they still have a duty to respond to customer queries from a service perspective.

Good evening.

My name is Tony Kendall, aka "tikay". I work for Sky Poker, & have done for 7 years.

This thread seems to have run away with itself.

I state as facts that......

Sky Poker were aware of the Tweet.

The matter which he Tweeted about was not, as such, directly connected with Sky Poker in any way.

Dave Ulliott would confirm this if asked

As far as I am aware - & I don't know this for sure - he does not even have a Sky Poker Account. He used to own his own Online Room, I have no idea if he still does.

He & I are well acquainted, & on good terms, have been for 12 years, & we chatted amiably as recently as Sunday at DTD in Nottingham.

A Post was removed from the Sky Poker Community this morning which referred to the Tweet. The Thread was removed with good reason, because it would serve no purpose to leave it there, & was not really a matter about which further comment would help. It really was best that way. Truly.

Everything at Sky Poker is tickity-boo, such as it always was.

It is understandable that there will be speculation after such a Tweet. I hope you will feel free to discuss it with Dave. He will confirm everything I have Posted here.

Yeah, that was Sky Poker. They filmed a second series of that recently with sports stars (Wayne Mardle, Matt Le Tisser, and some others that I don't know) along with regs and a couple of guys from DTD, and 5/5 blinds. Wasn't great tbh, was more interesting because Rob Yong had a VPIP of over 9000%. Think it would appeal more to recreational players than the hardcore minority though.

----

EDIT: Nvm, seen Tikay's post above - Regarding their locked forum thread(s?), that is fairly standard for them to not answer anything remotely awkward on their forum.
