Hey everyone. I am Canadian and living in Montreal, Quebec, and want to play on pokerstars.fr as their MTT schedule, payouts in euros, and good structure of their tourneys makes playing on their site very lucrative and profitable. However, in order to play on stars.fr, I am required to have a European bank account. I have contacted numerous European banks with regards to making an account and none of them have been able to help me. I have also asked stars.fr which banks they would recommend for me to use to make an account with and they did not provide an answer to my question.

I need a European bank account with the following:

1) No exorbitant minimum balance requirements. Anything 3k or less is feasible for me though.

2) Monthly fees are fine as long as they are reasonable.

3) There is no requirement for me to appear in person at the branch to make my account and that I can do it by sending in my documents over the internet or by mail.

Have any Non European Union citizens had any luck with this and would be able to give me some recommendations?

Have you contacted Keytrade Bank?

I have not, checking it out now and it looks like it has the potential to meet my required needs. Do you currently have an account with them?

No I just sent them an e-mail a while ago to asked if I could open an account with them online and they said yes. I also live in Montreal and at the time I wanted to try .fr from Canada, but I'm a cash game player and their rake is very high, I figured it was not worth the hassle.

Would it matter that Keytrade is a Belgian bank when Pokerstars.fr says "Note: residents of Belgium, Italy, Denmark and Estonia are not allowed to play on PokerStars.fr." or does that just mean you can't be in those countries but the bank account being based there wouldn't matter?

When I do the verification process for stars.fr, it gives me the option of selecting banks in Belgium, Estonia, Denmark, and Italy for my cashouts so as far as I can tell, as long as your not an actual resident of those countries then the bank being based there is not a problem. I am going to make an account with keytrade tomorrow and see how that goes. Will post an update here afterwards.

bump...

anybody know of any european banks that are good for this purpose?
i.e. low/non-existant minimum balance requirements, low monthly fees, no requirement to appear in person to make an account.

Usually in Europe you need 2 requirements for opening a bank account:

1) the residence
2) a job contract to open a bank account

Normally is like this, at most sometimes you are able to open if you have only one of these.

It's not an easy stuff if you don't live in Europe and you don't have a job into.
