@Gugel
Those are some sick numbers. Coincidence? Hardly, but who knows. I'm looking forward to Josem's response.

Michael's not here right now, but I can say that the answer is the former.
We have separate complex systems in place to automatically look for collusion, and for bots. Each is comprised of far more powerful servers than you can buy in a typical business/end-user machine, and each is dedicated solely to sifting through mountains of data to seek out potential suspects in their respective realms of responsibilities.
Exactly what they do and what they look at, we're just not at liberty to say.

Jeff

Re: Suspected Botter on Pokerstars
wow at that article. just wow.
At the end of the article it was mentioned that they were first noticed at intellipoker in April. These guys have been reported before, right? (at least some of them). I honestly have to wonder how it was possible at all that they weren't caught.

Because Stars has shown repeatedly that they're ****ing awful at detecting collusion and botting, and seem to rely solely on it being pointed out to them?
I'm about as big a Stars fanboy as they come, but all this **** over the past few months has me seriously considering an alternative site. It's insane that this crap goes on so often, for so long, with the worse compensation and reimbursement scheme imaginable.

Seriously, sell them as they're apparently useless. Just sift these boards and PTR as that's the only way you guys ever seem to catch anyone.

couldn't agree more, I have been a huge defender of Stars but this is really ridiculously bad/obvious and it looks like even a very superficial analysis reveals that these players are WAY too similar to each other.
LHE is practically dead as a game b/c botting was so easy and prevalent. While botting NL profitably is harder it's certainly not impossible and this suggests that it's already being tried somewhat successfully. One thing I really hate about the shallow tables is that the potential for botting and collusion seems much more acute.
I also find it really sad that playing 9/9 preflop beats these games, but that's another story.
Please change title of this to something like "Confirmed Botting Ring at Pokerstars SSNL cash games"

Collectively, they have played at least 8,320,121 hands at the $.25/$.50, $.5/$1 and $1/$2 NL levels, generated $186,572 in rake, and made $57,839 in profit (not including VIP benefits).

Seriously stars? So your apparently very poweful servers that are "solely sifting through mountains of data to seek out potential suspects in their respective realms of responsibilities" aren't able to detect these bots who are playing almost identical in a unique way for 8.3 million hands?

Pretty epic failure here, Jeff. Try having them look at the extremely simple stuff that PTR looked at instead of whatever they are currently looking at, because it's clearly not working. This is a huge hit to Stars' integrity. I've been a big fan of Stars for years now, but enough is enough, every month there seems to be some news like this coming out. If I didn't have a non-rakeback account on FTP I would be giving up my Supernova status and switching sites right now. I'll certainly be exploring other options for 2011 unless Stars does something to take responsibility and show that they are committed to improving things.

Big +1 on this. What are those complex machines they're using for security looking for? This is just basic statistical analysis

Re: Suspected Botter on Pokerstars
Holy smoke, this makes PS look REALLY bad.............
They obviously didnt compare the stats of the various accounts.
Did they do anything? Hoping it's not an inside job like UB/AP.
Maybe instead of stopping PTR they should hire them as consultants.......
I dont think you will be seeing any more posts by people working for PS in this thread for a while.........
