If a bank is OK with cashing checks from online gambling then fine, thats on them. I just want to make sure that extra income that I have to report on my taxes doesnt come back and bite me in the ass. If the actual PROFIT from online gambling is not illegal then great, but it seems as though if its illegal for a bank to cash a check from online gambling, it would taint the money.
It's YOU filing your taxes. The money would only be tainted if you committed a crime to obtain, which you haven't.

The facts the banks are in a legal grey area has nothing to do with you.

If you're this worried about online poker legality, just quit playing.

Is it so wrong to want to get the facts straight? Damn. Hard bunch here, huh?

After reading some more, it is fine. Banks are screwed not the player as long as the taxes are reported as usual. Even in an unfortunate audit, the receipts are not required for gambling. One just needs to have some form of record and report all gambling PROFIT and LOSSES. NOT net!!! Thats key.

The IRS has collected millions upon millions of dollars in taxes earned from blatantly obvious illicit activities and the only time it ever became an issue is when they didnt get and or stopped getting their money.

Many criminals over the years can attest to that fact.

But yes, obviously I wasnt suggesting that you should list your occupation as heroin dealer on your tax return.

I was however suggesting that if you are making enough money selling heroin, youd do well to find a way to get the IRS their share.

I couldn't care less what you claim, but your line of questioning and statements made make it fairly obvious.

It won't bite you in the ass, end of story. FTP, PS, AP, UB all got busted, and the government has access to all of FTP's clientele + records; nothing happens, it's legal for individuals.

It can be "tainted" to you for all intents and purposes, but a dollar is still a dollar to the IRS.

He meant as you play, just withdraw the winnings that would be taken out for taxes.

BTW, while you guy are still arguing about taxes/IRS stuff....
I'd love to know what the general consensus is in terms of the threshold amount of poker income that someone could earn in a year without needing to file taxes(online poker to be specific since I've heard larger live scores are automatically reported?)?

I mean obviously people making big bucks need to just report the income and pay up...but in general what is the lower cutoff amount where someone should start filing their taxes?

$20k/year? $100k/year?

to be clear, I'm not asking whether its possible to get away with not filing your taxes and earn more than $100k or something....obviously if you really want to hide the income you could do so.
I'm asking what the threshold amount is where someone should seriously consider paying taxes on their online poker income if they don't want to be a freeloader who cheats their govt?

Any income is taxable. End of story

so if someone plays casually a few tournaments every month and binks a score for $20k you think thats categorized as "income" and is taxable?

lets rephrase my question(s) this way....how much can someone earn playing online poker before they should have to "worry"(in good faith) about paying taxes?

Anything >$0 is taxable, end of discussion. Anything else being discussed will not be tolerated by the moderators.

hard to compare Bovada with other US facing sites....the anonymous tables are such a huge difference IMO its comparing apples to oranges.

now if your talking in terms of cashouts and/or reputation....
Bovada all the way! They have very speedy cashouts and a toll free customer service team which even Pokerstars is lacking.

they are by far the most reputable people left in the business(US online poker).

Thanks man truly appreciate it! What do you mean by the anonymous tables? I have not played online in a very very long time way before black friday and am mostly a live player but am wanting to get back into the online thing and since there are a couple of sites that now offer games for U.S. players

Bovada(formerly Bodog) switched over to a fully anonymous poker site....meaning there are no usernames, avatars, or other ways of identifying players.

when you sit down at a cash table or buy into a tournament....you are given a unique player number and that is the only way to identify a player. however these numbers do not carry over or follow you to new games/tournaments which has effectively made the games completely anonymous. you only keep the same # for the duration of a single tournament/SNG or while seated at a cash table...as soon as you get up, your number is gone.

No. He was answering your question objectively and honestly.

The fact that the answer to your question is not the answer you wanted to hear doesnt change that fact.

Your reaction and post above is merely a reflection on your attitude not his, as he gave you zero attitude or opinion one way or another.

who said I didn't like the answer he gave??? i asked a legitimate question asking whether a casual big MTT score is classified as INCOME and I got my answer.

i was trolling him for being an oh-so-serious forum cop and if you don't see the "attitude" in his post you're blind.
