I got one of the hand written checks from the Bahamas. Are these checks clearing, if so how long? I read that I should let the teller know that it is a foreign check. If anyone has had success cashing one of these please let me know how you did it.
anyone?

Boa? I have a hard time believing they can't process international checks/send it to collections.

All the major banks should be able to process it. You might find it difficult to open a new account and the first thing you do is deposit a check from Lolhamas. They're likely to think you're up to no good

They didnt let me deposit it and showed me the term and conditions stating they reserve the right to refuse a foreign check. If it wasn't handwritten they would have accepted it and sent it through collections. I was planning on letting whatever bank know that I have a foreign check to deposit before I even open a new account. One of my "Ebay" customers sent it to me.

I deposited my Bahamas handwritten max payout check today at my bank. It's actually a small, local credit union. They took the check and said there would be a ten day hold on the check. No fees or anything. Hopefully it doesn't bounce. I'd think most big banks would take these checks as long as you don't mind a "hold" so they can verify funds.

Well, any of the major banks can handle an international check. just be up front right away..."I bank with a small bank who isn't able to do international check transactions, can Bank XYZ serve my needs?" Having a story is good but I would avoid Ebay as nobody pays for stuff via check and they're sure to think it's a scam. How about saying you do consulting work via the Web? (you could obv have international customers)

That's the story I planned on using if I receive a foreign hand-written check as I DO have a web consulting business and do receive foreign checks on occasion. Had to change from a small local credit union to a large nationwide bank over that issue several years ago.

My check should be here any day now. Guess if I am going to cashout my roll, Christmas is as good as time as any....spoil my babies that much more

Getting tired of this thread and the dim ones posting their banking info. Thread title edited.

The "hand written check from the Bahamas", which I gave up editing, seems foolish as well.
imo.

totally agree we shouldn't be so descriptive of the check. How many checks like that are deposited in America each day? Basically none besides poker checks.

Update:

Check requested Dec. 1
approved on Dec. 1

Still no check as of today.. called Bovada today they said there is no tracking number and they estimate the check will get here (NJ) sometimes mid next week which puts it around Dec 21... Pretty ridiculous but at this point I just wish it wouldn't bounce when it gets here.

Are you kidding? This is how long checks take. It has been this way for several months. Your expectations are FAR too high.

All you're doing is creating more work for customer support, distracting them so they can't help people who have had checks bounce.

That goes for every one of you dolts bitching about requesting a check two or three weeks ago and not getting it yet. THREE WEEKS IS STANDARD -- GET USED TO IT.

My guess is that it is because of the type of player cashing out now. Previously this thread was only inhabited by moderately to high winning players getting their monthly 3K checks. My guess is a lot of these people are lower stakes players or semi-pro / semi-amateur's making their first real cash out.

When I did my first cash out I was extremely curious as well, especially when the checks started coming half-way around the world as opposed to being drawn on American soil as it was even as early as last year.

When someone gets the first "third world" check they have ever seen in their life, they are curious about it and want to make sure its legit.

I requested on the same day and haven't received a check/tracking number either. Central Jersey as well.

Please do not e-mail support if you requested a check AFTER 12-1-2011. It is clear they are backed-up and are working on the 11/29-11/30's right now.

Also, at this point your payout is ALREADY IN THE HANDS OF THE PROCESSOR. E-mailing Bodog is useless at this point. They prob couldn't even cancel it if they wanted to.

EXPECT 3 weeks, but don't get upset if it takes 4-5. You don't really have a choice and freaking out about it does not good.

You both win and you're absolutely right. Probably worse than mentioning bank names. Though I imagine banks process millions of hand-written checks from all over the world almost everyday.

I mentioned it specifically a couple of times, but it's too late to edit it out.

If you want, I can send you links to my posts so you can find and edit it easier.

And it is mentioned in your post as well. I see why you gave up now. Best to keep update info to a date requested/date received description. People are going to deposit whatever check received regardless of name and other qualities, so describing the check in detail doesn't help and may hurt.

Though the description of this check set off alarm bells for me, like why a check that looks like amateur hour and is my money safe?

I guess a description that says, "this check looks like amateur hour" or just "hand-written" without specifying originating country, would suffice.

That's ****ty news. Pretty sure I was in the same batch as you. I took my check to the issuing bank, who wouldn't cash it, but I deposited it in my account anyway. Guess I'll probably be getting a bounced check notification in the mail tomorrow.

I'm not sure why these larger banks are refusing to take these handwritten checks. I'd think that if you ask them to put a "hold" on the check after you deposit that they shouldn't have a problem. In essence, they will try and verify the funds are in the given account and then release the money to you once they verify. This obviously takes them a little work, but if you're a member, I'm not sure why they would not do this for you. My small local credit union is doing it for me. 10 day hold. I'd ask to speak to the bank manager if they refuse to take it and then threaten to take my business elsewhere if they still refuse. It's not like the bank is out the money. If the funds aren't there after the verification process, they will simply refuse to take it and won't lose any money.

I just used Moneygram to take my roll off. Cost $120 to get out $1600, but each one gets sent through in less than 24 hours.

Did you get $1600 out at once using MG? I thought it was $800 max at one time?

wat a horse chit outift Bovada lol.. their changes to the poker software are sure to drive away the majority of their poker players, and the difficulty with processing pay outs is another feather in their cap.
