What would depositing via ATM do for me? As I understand it the check may not clear as TCF must have some suspicion that is payment for online gambling? The check still has to be processed by a person, it is not as if depositing via ATM circumvents any human contact with the check.

I didn't consider depositing via an ATM to avoid scrutiny. I thought that going to a teller window would clear the check 1 day faster. The check looked professional.

An earlier poster to this thread mentioned some specific details about his/her Bodog Check. I suspect that it is a good idea to leave these details out in a publicly accessible forum.

What verification info was required? The last time I withdrew from Bodog was over a year ago via Neteller and there were no ID requirements then.

Thanks.

So I went in and spoke to the branch manager today. Apparently they received a report that the account may have NSF. The check is on hold until the 13th. TCF tried calling the name of the bank on the check to verify the funds, and they refuse to verify funds availability. Damn I sure hope there are no problems because I just received another check for $3600 today and it came from the same exact place. I deposited this check at a smaller community bank I have an account at, hopefully they will use less scrutiny....

I just cashed a Bodog check. I first went to a small check cashing place but they would not cash it, as it was an out of state check that they were not familiar with. Then, I went to one of those "all purpose," pay your utility bills, get a money order, western union, or cash a check, place. I gave them id and hesitantly gave them the last 4 digits of my social security number. I got the money (- 1.7% of the value). It was a little weird though: The teller did not know how to classify the check. Her co-worker (who appeared to be her superior or a more senior staff member) told her to label it miscellaneous. The teller at first reported to her co-worker that everything was not in order, as her system reported something was wrong. The co-worker reassured her and I eventually got paid. I did get a logitech camera pointed at me and I made a big smile.

Now I know how I have this option, should I ever have any problems with my bank.

My Check from Friday has not cleared yet. I will report the success or failure here.

Thanks

I considered doing this but was not sure how big of a check they would be willing to do this for. May I ask how much the check was?

I requested a small cashout just to test Check Cashing at a non bank. The amount was a little less than $100.00.

Now that the Business day is over, I need to mention that there is something unusual going on with the Check that I deposited on Friday. Normally, a little bit clears each day. From what I remember, it has never taken longer than 5 business days to fully clear. However, the amount that remains uncleared is the exact amount that was uncleared at the end of yesterday!

In the future, I'm probably going to take the check cashing store route. The worst thing that can happen is that they will not cash the check. I suspect that things can get more complicated if the bank will not honor a future check.

I'll continue to check in daily.

MNSUgoMAVS!,

Have you called Bodog yet? The situation with your check deserves an explanation or re-assurance from them. I am hoping that they have the situation under control...but you never know. Maybe the payment processor that cut the check has screwed up somewhere and Bodog doesn't know yet.

I just received a check for 5k and it is from the same bank as yours was. I took it to my credit union today, and they credited it immediately to my account without a hold. If they told me anything was wrong with it, I would call bodog immediately.

My Check from Friday cleared. I deposited it after business close on Friday. It cleared the morning after 4 business days.

Bodog has good service. If anybody has problems with checks, I am sure that they will resolve the issues and make good on all withdrawals.

Sorry if you were not trolling, it seemed that way to me. If you read earlier posts the bank sent me a letter stating that they did not believe the check from Bodog to be collectable (was not sure why this was, but maybe that they somehow knew it was from online gaming or something) so we were exploring other ways of cashing checks if it came down to that.

I am now confident that the check will clear after the ten business day hold TCF put on it. Apparently they had "received news" that the account may have NSF (at least that is what they told me...I still think they may have some idea it is somehow connected to online gaming). SunTrust bank will not verify the availability of the funds for some reason (probably because they know what they are doing is illegal) so TCF will not release the hold until they have collected ALL of the money. So while I have confidence that BoDog would not screw players, I still do not have confidence in the future ability to cash these checks as it seems a real possibility that banks are starting to catch on quicker which payment processors that online gaming sites are using.

So are you going to cash future B-Dog checks at a cash checking place or try a different bank? It takes a while to establish your relationship with a new bank; they might be just as skeptical as TCF of such checks. I've never used a check cashing store but I can't imagine going in there with anything north of a grand & having any success. Since were limited to one a month (for free) that leaves the cash checking store on the outside looking in.

Just to clarify, because this comes up fairly often: as far as the UIGEA and the Feds are concerned, there is nothing inherently illegal about any online gaming operation sending money to you. (The Feds are probably just fine with you bringing the money back into the States from overseas and putting in back into the economy, right?) The UIGEA's provisions are targeted at making it difficult for the online gaming operations to receive money from you.

So a US bank could openly receive money from offshore gaming operations and send them to you, even though the reverse transaction might be prohibited by the UIGEA.

I have an account at a small community bank here in Mankato and a good friend is a banker there, so I deposited the check for 3600 that I just received and he said it should clear by Monday or Tuesday (2-3 business days) meaning it will clear before the one at TCF. Damn TCF, they are a pain in my arse.

I forgot to mention something about my experience with the first cashing place that refused to cash my check. The man behind the counter (Probably the owner from his behavior) had the nerve to ask me what the check was for! I told him it was for a service that I provided somebody with. Even though the second cash cashing place that cashed the check for me had regulations and procedures, it was clear that they respected my anonymity.

What exactly is the state of Federal Laws regarding banks rights to know their customer's business. I remember around 1999, there was a proposed "know your customer" law that was being proposed for banks. I remember a friend of mine showing me a letter that he wrote his congressman, opposing the regulation. The congressman wrote back in agreement. Was this law ever enacted? Would a bank be allowed to ask this sort of question, or investigate a customer's business?

Thanks

A bank teller could ask this question but the only thing they are truly interested in is, Will this check clear. The reason they sometimes ask is because they know certain checks are more likely to clear than others. Gov, State, Corporate, Payroll, etc... are all more likely to clear than a personal check written out of state. They are simply asking questions to try and classify your check. Another important aspect is developing a relationship with your bank over time. An account holder with five years of banking business with a bank (& $3k average checking balance) that has never bounced a check or written one for NSF will receive far greater privileges than a new customer with $10k in average balance over one year.

As far as the privacy law goes, I have never seen or heard mention of it & couldn't believe it could pass any judicial review.

tc,

Pappy

Just got tracking # today. Picked up by courier 7/18, guaranteed in my hands by 7/23. I guess its about 35 days average check via courier right now. I've got another payout 6/28 so I guess 10 more days on that one.

Pretty sure the Patriot Act covers having to verify the source of funds if a check is suspicious or over 10k USD.
