I spoke again to support and they explained that in addition to your connection which must have an NJ ip adress you need 2 additional wifi connections that verify you are in NJ.

Its crazy and we should be able to sue someone for this.

I am sitting inside an AC casino and cannot play because i do not have 2 additional wifis.

Its very frustrating that the experience in the US is so much worse than anywhere else in the world.

Do you think there would be enough demand for a poker club in NJ? A shared house/building in Jersey City (or Hoboken) that only exists for the purpose of playing online poker in NJ? You could have a leased share so you'd have a NJ address, 24/7 access, enough WiFi connections, etc.

What would you be willing to pay for a share of it? $100/month? $200? $300? More?

I'm more than willing to try to set it up if there is enough demand. I have a lot of real estate experience and more live poker experience than online, but am signing up with party poker and think this could be a good thing.

I think this is a great idea. I have connections with a large poker club in NYC....that has about 300 members. I think we could get a good crowd. I also have a background in real estate....and an interest in online poker....and it is very frustrating to have try to find a place to gain web access. Most of the coffee shops etc close around 9pm. I lost one tournament because the shop closed before I could reach the final table.

I've tried a couple of times going to Hoboken with fairly poor results. Mainly connections were so poor, that I would be disconnected even if properly geolocated. I managed to play a decent amount of cash hands on WSOP from my iPad at Panera one time, but on my second visit, I tried from both my laptop and iPad and got disconnected repeatedly from both Borgata and WSOP. Starbucks on Washington St. was no better - never really managed to connect.
Dunkin Donuts are 24hrs and seem to work, but... there's really nowhere to sit there.

I'll try Jersey City next, but a shared poker club would be a great option. I did notice however that WSOP at least wouldn't let me be at the same cash table with my friend when we were sharing the same hotel IP address. Not sure what happens in tournaments...

For what its worth, I took an expedition today from Manhattan on the PATH to try to play some online poker in NJ. I registered for WSOP.com and Party Poker before leaving NY. First stop was the Exchange Place stop and the nearby Starbucks. No luck, because it could not verify my location. Next stop, the Grove Street stop and Starbucks...same location verification problem. I'm starting to think it is either (a) location is too close to the border, (b) I registered out of state or (b) something with Starbucks' wifi. The reality is that I am not too well versed in the technical aspects. This was one hell of a disappointment (although partially expected). I have a newborn at home and so my free day to play poker is pretty much busto. Good thing I'm heading to AC tomorrow, or I'd be even more bummed. I can't get a feel for what I need to do to actually play online in NJ.

Any thoughts from the 2+2 community? What do you think it preventing the location services? I have friends in NJ but they are unavailable today. I'm also considering going to the end of the PATH line (Newark), but I don't know where I will play there.

I understand that you city-slickers know this, but I had to look it up.

We are going to need some specific locations and trip reports:

McDonald's
Starbucks
Panera Bread
Dunkin Donuts

and maybe something slightly more up-scale.

For Newark:

WSOP could not verify my location at two different Starbucks in Hoboken last weekend (51 Newark Street & 314 Washington Street) but I was able to connect practically next door at Panera Bread (310 Washington Street). However, WSOP then requested even more documentation (they had already requested name, address, social security number, date of birth) including a photo of my driver's license and/or passport.

At that point I had run out of time & patience and gave up before they asked for my first-born child.

Fwiw I live on the Delaware river In SJ and have no geo location issues.. To me that means "being near the border" is sort of irrelevant. Somethig else is going on.

Update on my efforts to play in NJ. I took a trip to AC and while I was there, I was able to get online and play without any issue. Since I was unable to get online at the Starbucks by the two PATH station stops, the issue is narrowed to two possibilities: I was too close to the NY border, or the wifi at the two Starbucks are set up in a way that prevents location verification or otherwise prevents online poker from working. Someone suggested that they played by the DE border without a problem and my friend who lives in NJ near the NY border can play from his home, so I'm assuming it is something with the wifi at Starbucks. I'm no tech guy, though, so I don't know what the issue might be or better alternatives.

There is a hint that some free wifi providers are considering their options on poker.

Locations with WiFi must decide on N.J. gambling

I believe the issue is WIFI locations that make you sign in. A lot of Starbucks, etc use AT&T which makes you agree to terms of service -- this acts as a proxy and throws off the geolocation.

I have had luck at locations which have open, non-sign in WIFI. Washington St is no problem.

I find it rather uncomfortable to play in a non-private setting. Would be interested in alternatives.

Hey guys I plan on opening up a place in Hoboken a few blocks from the Path that people can come to play online poker. If you're interested message me and I'll provide details. Thanks.

I was able to play at the Days Inn in Budd Lake for hours without an issue. At a Howard Johnson in Parsippany, I kept having geolocation issues every few minutes. It was unplayable.

I live in new york city and would like to travel a few miles into new Jersey, preferably Hoboken or fort Lee area to a hotel so I can successfully geolocate. Does anybody know which hotels are good for this? I've tried in the past and was unsuccessful. I paid for the hotel and wasn't even able to play one hand. Please someone help me!!! Thank you.

You do not need to be a NJ resident to register, you just need to be in NJ at the time to play.

What are some good places along the PATH train route (in Hoboken, Jersey City, etc.) to play online poker? I tried some places in Hoboken, but they didn't work.

Get a Priceline hotel for cheap. They tend to be cheapest the day of, right around 6pm. Obviously the closer to NYC the crappier the hotel you get for cheap. I wouldn't recommend anything below 3* around Newark.
